So the various communist parties of history have tried various ways to make the idea work within a single nation or group of nations.
What they end up doing is creating State Capitalism, where the state replaces capital but the economy still basically works like capitalism with strong social systems.
Also, Marx came up with his ideas with Germany in mind, an educated and industrialized state at the time of his life.
Russia and China were agrarian states not too far removed from feudalism, so both Chinese and Russian communists came up with the concept of a vanguard; an educated group to take control and lead the state until the country became educated and industrialized.
Vanguard parties ultimately fail as 99% of humans are monsters waiting for the opportunity to be monstrous, and the power afforded a vanguard party gave them that ability to be monsters.
This is why no biological human should ever have power. We are still carrying too much animal waste in our code.
