That's a lot better then down here! It's more of how we used to be in the 70s and 80s.

Actual eduaction. Sometimes we had to do presentations. One time I was acting as communist in a history class and other time as entrepreneur in geography and economy.

Well, in europe what you learn in schools gonna depend on the quality of the professor doing the teaching.

Where I live, schools are companies funded by the government. You can guess how that goes.
"Do nothing, teach bare minimum", "Expand to fit in more students", "Prevent teachers from teaching more.", "Sell books and needs for the maximum prices and make students buy more than they will ever use.", "Make them carry these books back and forth.", "Provide no place for students to stay (except for very rich schools accepting tourists and stuff", "Provide no lockers or even a place to put your jacket up into or helmet if you use a motorcycle.", "Make students walk between classes with overly stiffed backpacks or whatever they use to carry everything."
"Pay to print papers 25 cents each (if not more), make them print a lot, despite going full digital."

Politics in school? ... we have separated bathrooms, but no one cares so you will find phalluses pointing at a sink in the girls bathroom, or crossdressing people in the guys bathroom, yes in higher education.
We do have students from abroad, but they don't get special treatment. It is groups students form themselves that express politics or political interests.

We don't have clubs either or sports facilities (linked to a school), but that said, students can form an official 'club' (company) that rents existing sportsfields every now and then for their team to train or practise on. ... or you can just rent it with your friends if you have enough money. (likely not because education costs a ♥♥♥♥ ton)

Also you need university level access to learn new languages here (♥♥♥♥ like that makes people keep spending on education.). It absolutely makes no sense; luckily online there are free alternatives.

Were talking about a hundred years ago when these types of schools were ran by religious institutions and were funded by the government. America had them, britain had them, canada too. Alot of people were screwed, and still getting screwed by mainly the same group of people. The rich and elite.

Thing is they werent doing it to just indians, they did it to orphans and other "undesirables" as well. Its kinda crazy that people have forgotten this or maybe everyone is just to young to remember. Alot has changed in the last 50 years.

To date, we are unaware of any convictions for abuse at Kamloops IRS or of any convicted
abusers present at the school. However, Gerald Moran has been charged with 33 counts (not all
of which pertain to Kamloops IRS), and is awaiting trial in September 2004. [RCMP Press

There is a letter from the local Roman Catholic bishop, written in 1893, which refers to
immorality at the school and alleges that the older students were involving the younger ones in
sodomy and self-abuse. [02393]

There are references to truancy at the Kamloops Industrial School. In one letter, dated March 9,
1913, the Principal refers to the incidence oftruancy as an "epidemic". [97243] The Principal
employed several measures to apprehend the truant pupils, including hiring a man to track the
boys, notifying the Indian Agent to alert the local police force and railway employees, and writing
to a local Indian Chief to secure his cooperation in returning the truants. [97252, 97253, 97251,
97246, 97233B, 97233] Once the truants were apprehended, the issue of their punishment was
addressed. There are references to the truants being handcuffed, if they appeared uncooperative.
[97312, 97314, 97287, 97311] After their return to the school, the Indian Agent advised the
Principal that the truant boys should be flogged by the Principal and placed in solitary confinement
for five days, eating bread and water for their morning and evening meals. [97285, 97318,
97316] The Principal reported that having administered this punishment, the student ran away
again. [97286]
The incidence oftruancy appears to have diminished by 1924, when the Principal ofthe school
acknowledges that "we have not had a child run away for over a year". [01234] In 1945, the
local Indian Agent states that all absenteeism from the school is rigorously investigated, and
prosecution instituted when necessary, with the result that there are no cases of truancy to report.
[93171] However, in 1947, three boys ran away from the school and died when the freight train
they had boarded was derailed by a landslide. [90179]

Yeah sounds like a pleasant place.... for sure....

Now im not saying that there isnt fraud happening, but I dont know why indians are getting blamed. Perhaps people should start looking a little higher up the social economic chain. They likely know the name of every kid that never made it home from that school. They have a list of thousands of them across the nation. Some of it was infectious disease but it appears they would stick infected individuals into crowded dorms/classrooms on purpose instead of quarantining which was standard practice at that time.

Lets not even talk about the experiments canada did with nutrition on schools like these, and thats just the little bit we know....

Culture wars is a geopolitical construct to divert your attention away from issues that matter most in your daily lives. As long as you are getting heated up over 3rd pronoun washrooms you woun't notice how your social programs are being stripped. Education is a target because the last thing government wants are a population that can think for themselves. Healthcare is another casualty because they only care about rich people having access to the latest techs. It's enormously expensive to keep a nation healthy. Culture wars is most prevalent in US because the people are easier to divide but it's in any culture.
The beginnings can be traced back to when RW adopted their own meaning for woke by taking the original "bringing attention to a social injustice" and making it out to be a negative as in "pushing for a progressive agenda" The liberal meaning ruffled feathers of conservatives so they changed it to suit their agenda. Dictionaries generally stick to the original definition but most appended the conservative meaning as well

Despite right-wing populists, conservatives and libertarians importing US-style culture wars to Europe we still have civil discussions over social issues rathee than screaming matches.

In the UK at least you get arrested for public order offenses if you speak out against such things.
