good song (Metallica: The Unforgiven), but not a good subforum name.

"ForaDome" is much better and describes it to a T.

have a nice day

meh.
I only engage in things i am interested in, some of which is debate. Imo debate is not yelling and screaming though, it's a rational and reasonable discussion. throw in a little passion and the topic could become heated, so what? hopefully, we come away having learned something for ourselves even if we didn't change the other person's mind.

For threads like this, I like it add that OT is what you make it. Don't like the topics on top? Create one of your own on a subject you find interesting and hopefully you'll get a few interlocutor partners on the topic and boom, you changed the vibe.

I'll tell you just how dumb Hollywood is.

They ruin Mad Max by getting rid of Mad Max, replacing him with a 1-armed white woman.

But they missed a Tina Turner prequel that was right in front of their noses; that's canon, that the audience would willingly accept.

They literally don't even know their own subject matter. This is why people dislike woke, they want us to care but they don't even care themselves.

found a fitting piece of music for the ForaDome, just a little music for the SteamTown's folk.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLBXAs2LO8k

the meaning behind it, is something to take notes on.

Tina Turner's song "We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)" expresses the desire of people in a post-apocalyptic, devastated world to move beyond a cycle of violence and fear, symbolized by the Thunderdome, and build a better future. Sung from the perspective of the children left behind, the song is a powerful anthem for empowerment and social change, advocating for a world that values compassion and connection rather than the destructive cycles of the past.

Context within the film.

Post-apocalyptic setting:

The song is the theme for the 1985 film Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, which depicts a desert world ravaged by a nuclear disaster.

Children's perspective:
The lyrics are sung from the viewpoint of the children who have survived the apocalypse, having lost their parents and been left to fend for themselves.

Aunty Entity:
Tina Turner also starred as Aunty Entity, the ruler of Bartertown, a powerful figure who presides over the Thunderdome, a brutal arena for combat.

Themes of the song

Anti-heroism:
The chorus, "We don't need another hero," signifies the children's rejection of the warrior figures and violence that led to their world's destruction.

Hope and Resilience:
Despite the grim setting, the song carries a message of hope for a better future, one built on different values.

Social Commentary:
The song serves as a powerful anti-war and anti-nuclear protest, reflecting anxieties of the era.

Empowerment:
The lyrics suggest a need for self-empowerment, to move beyond the chaos and find strength to create a new society.

Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome uses a post-apocalyptic setting to explore the tension between civilization and barbarism, specifically contrasting Bartertown's cynical, materialistic approach with the Oasis children's hopeful, albeit naive, vision of the future. The film serves as a modern myth, examining societal structures and the human capacity for both dreams and destruction, with Max acting as a catalyst for finding a better path beyond the violence and exploitation of the past.

Civilization vs. Barbarism

The film presents two starkly different post-apocalyptic societies: Bartertown, a ruthless, engine-driven city built on commerce and hierarchy, and the isolated community of children who live in an oasis.

Bartertown embodies the conflict between humanity's "carnal tendencies" of fighting and stealing and the search for a better, unified way to live.

Art and Commerce

The film contrasts the "art" of the children's dream and hope for a better tomorrow with the "commerce" of Bartertown, which is based on exploitation and self-interest.

The Thunderdome itself serves as a symbol of this conflict, where fights are resolved through brutal, commercialized violence, and winning is often a matter of exploiting the weakness of others.

Max as the Catalyst

Max, as a wanderer, acts as a conduit between these two worlds, forcing them to confront their differences.

His involvement with the children and his decision not to kill Blaster in the Thunderdome leads to the film's title, "Beyond Thunderdome," suggesting a future where humanity moves past the cycle of violence represented by the arena.

A Modern Myth

The film functions as a modern myth, reflecting a common theme in post-apocalyptic fiction where humanity must learn to control its power lest it destroy itself.

It examines the ways in which societies attempt to structure themselves after a collapse, presenting both the failure of Bartertown's model and the potential for renewal through the children's rediscovered hope and connection to the past.

update: installed a loud speaker, ForaDome will now have a theme.
