interest in the f150 was solving everyones need for a pickup truck for trailers and other moderate recreational hauling.
so they marketed the crap out of the 150 in order to preserve the market value of truly uselsss trucks like the 400. or 'too small too light' models like the 250 or 350, which cost more and do less than a rig.
because its overmarketed people buy less of their one good option and more of their ridiculous garbage. it harms primary sales, but they make up for it in tertiary scamming.
now if you buy the one good one you are a rube, and getting anything else makes you one in fact.
