Can you play video games in prison?
Just to note: I’m not going to prison, not being sentenced, nothing like that. Was just wondering.

Sorry if this question is seen as disrespectful.

Obviously the specific prison and country/location matters. I’m in the UK if that helps, but wondering about answers for other places too.

I’d imagine that tech and devices are very restricted, but could you get a gaming console or even laptop checked out before bringing it in, having it monitored, or something?

I’ve heard that some prisons have communal areas that may have a tv with a console, but I’m thinking more of a personal item.

yes you can in some countrys

Sweden and Norway i know of
Like you said, depends on the prison. I have heard that some prisons ban playing tabletop Dungeons and Dragons. So they innovate and disguise it as something else. They do something like pick a paper with a number on it out of a cup for the dice roll.

I’d just be wary what the inmates/cell mates use for joysticks.

And this is exactly why "prison" in those countries is a joke... and a bad one at that.

Prison is a punishment, not a luxury resort; prisoners should only get a cell, a bed, a toilet, a sink, light, books, and that's it... perhaps even a window, if the layout allows it; but no more than that.

It’s actually more effective. For example, Norway has around a 20% reoffending rate, compared to about 70% in the U.S. Also, if someone reoffends in a European system, they’re usually moved to a stricter security level with fewer privileges—but the focus stays on rehabilitation, not just punishment.

Well, if there actually are "levels" of imprisonment, then sure.

But I'd hate the thought of a murderer or rapist enjoying his life in a stacked out cell with a TV and a gaming console; it just doesn't seem fair to the victim.

A simple petty thief, put him in a good cell; a hardened criminal, a real cell.

In WA state you can, I work in a prison and the inmates just got these little nintendo emulators with 400ish games on them, they can buy it from the prison store along with a TV, I know they are trying to roll out 1st gen xbox and playstation as well but am unsure when that will be, its all part of the amend program set in place across prisons in washington.

In my country you can have all the luxury you want. Booze, weed, drugs, games, etc.

As long as you pay enough you can open a damn skooma den in prison and no one cares.

And Noway would have even lower if prisoners weren't treated like guests.

The reason is we have less repest offenders becuse yeah prisons are to rehabilitate so they dont get in the same situation causing them to do crime

Source? Or more likely, just your opinion. It's important to to confirm why you put criminals in prison in the first place. You think treating them worse makes people become a better person? Or do you just want people to rot there forever so it doesn't really matter how they are treated?
