Even though there are masterpieces in each era, I've just watched through most of the Bronze era movies and to me they are the most charming, with beautiful sketch animation. They just tell a story, simply and more importantly give those stories time to breathe.

I dont know about best but just for nostalgia's sake, my childhood favorites were Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast and Bambi

The Black Cauldron only happened because Disney couldn't land the rights to LOTR. So they made their own thing, and changed a few names.

A couple other animation studios got to roll with that franchise, but it didn't get popular again until the live action movies.

Ralph Bakshi got The Lord of the Rings, but he only got to make the first one.
