most people have been in love, sadly its almost always with themselves

I've said it to a few, and certainly thought I meant it every time.

Had it said to me by a few, too.

Took until I was 29 to find the last one I ever want to say those words to, and 14 years later we're still married--and we still love each other.

It doesn't happen for everyone, but I hope it'll happen for you. Trite as it sounds, it took *not looking* to find (what I hope is) forever.

You can't love anyone, because you can't trust anyone, and you really can't trust anyone that says they love you.

I mean, my wife makes more than me by roughly 1.5x; she doesn't really need me financially, and she's in great shape (military), so she wouldn't have any real trouble finding another dude.

I can also be a neurotic curmudgeon, and am generally an irritable, sarcastic person to and with everyone but her, my students, and my colleagues.

And still, she stays. Still, she sleeps with me.

Hell, for the last couple of days she's been taking care of me after I sustained a significant knee injury while working on the house; I can't walk unassisted right now, and has she complained once?

No.

So maybe love's only a lie if you lie every time you say it; can't expect to find a thing you have no faith in.

Not yet... but that's okay because I'm not looking to find love. I'm content with my life as it is now. And, as far as I know, I haven't broken any hearts by being in solitude so... win-win?
