Are humans a monogamous species or not?
I say not. This is why cheating is so common and why we can switch partners so easily.

they aren't, that is why many societies needed to create strict religious rules to impose monogamy on people.

I say yes, because an absurd amount of people have died of STD's since we began as species. In a way it's good ol' ancient nature way, of teaching humans to behave less recklessly.
the cool thing about being a human being is we have the intelligence and free will to decide if he wish to be monogamous or not. for some humans they genuinely feel more fulfilled and safe being monogamous, for others they cannot simply limit themselves to one mate for their entire life.
Computer says no
Sexuality and such with new partners is a major temptation...We are a monogamous species if we exercise honor and self control...Beyond that, you are just a slave to what you desire...

Are there any truly monogamous species? I know some have a higher propensity for it than others, but I can't think of one where it is strictly monogamous all the time
Yes. We live longer than most. We are viviparous and commonly give birth to a single child. This requires a lengthy and arduous amount of time and energy to ensure the survival of our offspring. To do so requires dedicated life partners.

Yes there is polygamy, but that can only succeed in certain conditions not too commonly found in the world. (Modern)

Socially? I think open relationships more often than not fail. Morally is only an issue when it's not consented to by both parties.

other mammals also deal with stds but they are not monogamous. stds existing does not mean that a species is meant to be monogamous, pr that monogamy is their natural state.

humans are naturally polygamous not monogamous, monogomy is a social construct imposed upon people as a direct result of property ownership and inheritance and men not wanting their property passed on to someone who is not their biological child as well as the not wanting to endure the financial cost of raising another man's child as their own.

many animals mate for life with a singular "main" partner and do not engage in mating with any other, yes. but they are often supported by "communities" or "herds" that assist in caring for one anothers offspring or foraging.
After the female emperor penguin lays it's egg, it gives it to the male and goes to the sea for 2-3 months to feed. The males do not eat during this time and to survive the Antarctic weather with the eggs they all huddle together, taking turns to be on the outside where it is coldest. When the females come back they are somehow able to find their partner and hatch the egg together.

Contrary to popular belief, emperor penguins do not mate for life; they are serially monogamous, having only one mate each year, and remain faithful to that mate. However, fidelity between years is only around 15%. [74]

communal/herd animals don't mate for life, those that do are usually loner species because they have not evolved to act as a herd.

Except people naturally feel betrayed and are completely destroyed when they get cheated on, a feeling so strong and so visceral it can even kills people.

People who can't be loyal lack of self control, slaves of their lust and animal instincts.

A man choose, a slave obey.
Are you a man? Or a slave?

birds are a good example of this. many birds mate for life, many birds still live in flocks and communities.
