Why is it most Hollywood action movies always star old middle-aged men and not young men?
I get these 'middle-aged men' are usually hotshot big name actors who have the star power, but it gets tiresome after a while...

I'd also love it if there was a young dude in his twenties starred instead. And he'd be more relatable to people in their twenties/teens.

Because they've never wanted any new people in their clique. So they ended up with all these old wash outs.

The older actors looked more masculine, think of younger actors is that many males who look like the strong-rugged type?

Andrew Garfield- (spiderman) looks like an adult child.

Tom Holland (also Spiderman) same thing, looks like an adult child.

Danielle Radcliffe (Harry Potter) same thing..

In fact at this point I have to wonder if child actors aren't taking some drug that makes them retain their youthful look longer for movies and that's why they never age into a more masculine look.

Nicholas Hoult...a little bit better but too skinny and he's 35 pushing the age where I wouldn't consider them younger anymore.

Will Poulter (eyebrows)...maybe?

Well that's just the movies side of entertainment, but if you ask me it's just old cats refusing to retire and wanting to stay in the limelight fora little longer.

Better Diets
Better Health
Less outdoor adventure
Less likely to be allowed into a role if they prone to getting into trouble so unlikely to get somebody whose had a few rounds a day type actors.

-outdoors life ages people bit differently.

Also evolution, we are getting better looking.
BEtter fed and vitamins etc etc this is passed on through our genes.

-By Goblet of Fire they could have replaced the Harry Potter Daniel with Richard Hammond off Top Gear.

The metrosexual look doesn't scream action star. Look at the last few star wars movies, the whole main cast look like they just came out of the spa. Compare that to older action movies, they had a worn look, as if they actually did something beyond sipping on coffee all day.

Look for those 20 year olds at every Marvel reboot or new phase every 10 years

In the 1970s and 1980s, when this particular genre was made popular, the actors were young men in their 20s.

Trouble was both fans and the studios got too accustomed to seeing the same heroes over and over. Stallone, Willis, Schwarzenegger; Rocky, Terminator, Die hard, Rambo, etc.

...and people don't get any younger...

This was also observed in the 1990s a bit, and this was also decade of a moderate feminist/metro-man uprising in Hollywood, before it gave way to the lunacy we have now. The genre was forced to give headway to films like Titanic, with the producer of Terminator at the helm nonetheless, Schwarzenegger and the others started taking comedy roles, etc, and there was some hype about the 'female hero' archetype with titles like Resident Evil going to film and a Charlie's Angels remake as two examples.

There was a bit of a revival of with actors like Dwayne Johnson leading the way with The Rundown, Walking Tall, and Fast and Furious, but none of the other male actors or leads really connected to the audience the same way they did back in the late 1970s. Ironically, the female supporting cast did however.

In a nutshell, subsequent generations of the male action genre never impressed the audience they way it did in the 1970s and 1980s, but somehow the demand for the actors of those times persisted. Talent like both Stallone and Schwarzenegger were able to reprise their roles from those times, while the male action genre overall spiraled into atrophy moving forwards.

This "relatable" crap is why Hollywood is a woke DEI mess. You don't have to relate to characters from every story, the stories are not about you.

It takes time for an actor to get formalized training as an actor, and even more time to build up a resume by which somebody can judge your suitability for a starring role. so unless you're a child star you don't have an established resume as a young adult.

Moreover, audiences aren't particularly likely to remember you after just one movie. It happens sometimes, but it's surely not the norm. It's more likely that your star power comes from some people remembering you from this, that or the other movie they enjoyed. When you're younger, you're more likely to take an apprenticeship role to the star.

Today I learned that Keanu Reeves was twenty five years old when he played the quintessential 1980s 16 year old Ted in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. No way.
