Drake loses lawsuit against Universal Music Group.
Kendrick Lamar makes a rap “Not Like Us” in which he insinuates that Drake has inappropriate relations minors. Judge tosses the case out citing the diss tracks each have made against each other. UMG honors the decision. Drake’s team says they’ll appeal the decision.

First of all, I feel like this 💩 only happens in ‘Murica.

Should we draw lines when it comes to speech, or should we let artists push the boundaries of speech? Should all speech be free speech?

If Drake’s team appeals & wins, what does that mean for the future of rap battles?

I watch a little from the rap and I'm going to be honest I'am so high I could not understand any of it or it just me , sooo I watch another with word and I see why they hate it, isn't that what rap battle music is about thou? I've watch a about under a dozen rap battle's and its not my speed but that the whole stick right? You rap then they rap back and I just thought that's what they were doing, I mean maybe they are getting too personal but still that is what a rap battle is to me.

A argument could be made maybe for slander in a legal sense and a few other things and that seems to be whats happening. I'm sorry i just don't have the care or real knowledge to give any more then this.

Thanks for you talk about the X-men thing, it was the best conversation I've had today.

Slander is slander whether it's in a song or not, this case is different because the 2 are both doing it and can be seen as consent to do so.

In the same way that a judge anywhere in the world would be facepalming if 2 guys willingly decided to have a fight in the street, they would typically not be charged with assaulting eachother if both consented to the act, instead being charged for the impact on the people who had to witness the manchilds.

The ruling by the judge is correct, 2 people that both need to think about their actions and are both as bad as each other and is a way to tell both of them to grow up.

This ruling does not change cases where one person is targeting others with slander.

Topic on this evaluation feels pretty pointless.

rap battles went away because lines like this could result in a law suit.

average rap battler career goes:

I'm a nobody
I got someone to diss me so hard I have an actionable case, and sued them for money to live off of
I'm going to be here every week, being a nobody, because I'm living off that check.
Oh man my delicate feelings are actionable again; oh no! I can't sue myself!

I know that the judge’s move is correct, but I feel like Drake’s legal team will milk it as long as Drake pays them.

I knew a guy who went after someone legally over and over again until he got a result he was happy with. That’s what money gets you & I think that that’s what destroys our ideas of justice.

I found out too that Drake sued UMG likely because a suit against Kendrick would have been less likely to pass.

Why do these people even have money if all they’re going to do is sue each other over hurt feelings?

Honestly, it’s difficult to take people seriously with this kind of stuff. Maybe not the whole world, but the US feels like a hellish practical joke, js.
