Yet another reason not to use Windows 11... local accounts removed.
Windows 11 removes all bypass methods for Microsoft account setup, removing local account creation.

Wow, all they had to do was keep updating windows 10 back when they said it would be the last windows you'd have to buy, now they are heading for "always online" and "OS as a subscription Service".

"You vill own nothzing und be happy, or else!"

https://alternativeto.net/news/2025/10/windows-11-now-blocks-all-microsoft-account-bypasses-during-setup/

You basically have to buy an enterprise version to be able to make a local account on Windows 11 in case you spend a lot of time offline or in remote situations where the internet is sparse or unreliable.

Just a reminder, "END OF SUPPORT FOR WINDOWS 10" does NOT mean Windows 10 will stop working, since a lot of tech-illiterate people think their win-10 computer will blow up or automatically get filled with viruses or something when support ends. :steamfacepalm:

They're removing a loop hole most people didn't even know about or use. Oh no!

As for using a local account, you can actually do this with the home edition. You do not need enterprise. I'm pretty sure because I'm on home edition, using a local account.

Except that tons of people are reporting that all kinds of things are breaking right and left.

Now they wouldn't be taking a page from the likes of Apple and deliberately breaking things to try to goad people into just buying new..

No. They wouldn't do that.

If a common person did things like remotely destroy someone else's computer they would face felony charges.

But of course, that's only for an individual....

Bribe the politicians and it is worth $$$!!!!!

It does if "Oopsie, that last update made your system slow down a tad... Hehewhoops!". Kind of like what phones companies have been caught doing in the past. Especially with their extended security updates for Windows 10.

Snip

You beat me to it, I won't forgive you.

The word is getting out.

People are reporting everything from Windows going bonkers to fans suddenly not spinning, sleep mode meaning it's really still on, rigs magically overheating... and and and...

But no. They didn't do any of that on purpose... No. They are big companies and who are we to question them!?!??!

I dont subscribe to the "windows is evil" ideology.

Ive always used the latest edition with the latest patches, and rarely ever have an issue. If I do, its most always related to my personal configuration blocking an update, or graphics driver issues.

I use a ms account as standard user and a local account as the administrator. If they remove that option then Ill just make another ms account for admin.

I can always just connect through my phone if internet isnt working. Everyone has a phone.

Meh, pretty much every service requires an account these days. It's nothing unusual. And Windows 11 requires an internet connection during setup but you can continue to use it offline after that.

You own your hardware but the software (Windows) belongs to MS and is licensed as a service.

It does a lot of internet-requiring activities during setup such as installing the latest updates and the drivers for your hardware after it has gathered hardware info.
Why wouldn't you want to use your Microsoft account to log into windows?
oh piracy...

Windows starts to break or at the very least become corrupted after few years of using it and dozens of cumulative monthly update packages installed on top of one another. That's why fresh install is a recommended step when people experience issues.

I think most Windows 10 installations are corrupted at this point because many of them are many years old since installed, and the OS has been out for a decade.

Most of the things you're talking about like fans (and overheating/temp management) is controlled by BIOS or OEM software that has access to the motherboard.

Yes. There is that.

However, there are reports, and I am personally hearing from people who are doing fresh redoes and well well well...

The other thing is, yes, everyone is demanding accounts everywhere.

I cannot count how many times I have people have UTTER MELTDOWNS when I am at stores and I refuse to give out my personal information.

In fact, I am revoking all rewards cards. Nope. I don't need to save 2% and have my data sold all over kingdom come. Nope.

Should health return, I very well may run for office and one of the first things that needs to happen is we need (U.S.) to pass a constitutional amendment enshrining the right to privacy.

And then I would pass legislation to make spyware a capital offense.

not everyone can access the free version legitimately, and the free version was only for the 1st year in a lot of cases. win10 for example

So did you think that when you join some rewards program, it's just free discounts? Of course those discounts are compensated.

It is not your data itself that is valuable, it's the purchases made by thousands or millions of people put together to create datasets and gather information what the masses are interested in. The reward programs are companies paying you (either bonuses or discounts) to be part of those studies and statistics alongside thousands or millions of other people.

So are you going to end studies and statistics on grocery shopping? Because if you get rid of rewards programs, that's basically what happens.

And joining programs is voluntary, it's not violating privacy rights. You're not talking about rights, making data collection of all kinds a crime is mandating privacy.
