what do you think about?
What do others think about accumulating games they will never play, or will only play for a few hours, just because they become free (either as an offer or by mistake) and add to the number of games they own?

Imagine if there was a law that says people are only allowed 2 new games per year. Imagine how the industry would change.

I try not to think about it.
I think its at least cheaper to gather free games you will never play than to buy them for the same purpose :TOIlogo:

But everyone is free to spend their money/time as they see fit, who am i to judge if someone decides to give lord gaben some extra cash :steammocking:

I was referring more to the fact that many people do it just to accumulate games, so they can say that their library has a large number of games. They download them knowing that they are not going to play them.
I am not referring to the fact that someone buys a lot of games. Rather, they see an advertisement saying that a certain game is free for a limited time, and they don't care what game it is, they download it to add one more to their collection.

I have spent 7 to 15 thousand on games on steam (depending on what the figures on the outside funding page actually mean, they don't add up in a way you'd expect) and haven't played most of the games I own.

I haven't bought a game all year so far, I am thinking I probably won't buy another game from steam. (Actually I might have bought knights in tight spaces. Can't remember when I paid for that.) Steams gone to ♥♥♥♥ and I have a huge amount of games I haven't touched.

Oh and regarding others doing it specifically? It's their money to do what they want.

A freebie is a freebie. Even if its not on my shopping list today, who knows what might happen.

Also -- if a game is at €0.01, I'll probably look into it to decide whether I want to buy it or not. Freebies are the "click first, ask questions laternever" kind of deal.

Do those games count for the "total of games owned"? If i remember correctly some free games dont add to that total, like i have 210 or so games that i own but it goes up to 250ish with free to play games. Also i doubt most people ever download them best to just select the "add to library" option instead :steammocking:

And for your question, people just like to see number go up(more so if its free) people like beeg numba :TOIlogo: i would supose you could understand that by the number on your name heh.

I don't care about the money I spend nearly as much about the money that I don't spend. It is called living with a budget, and as long as we spend less than you make and are comfortable you're going to be okay.

Games that are always free don't add 1 to the library, but those that are free for a limited time are usually added.
the number of my name has nothing to do with the games :D

Interesting, then i guess its a way for people to get closer to the steam badges like "owner of 1k games" and what not without spending a dime.

Unless such badge only takes into account games you paid for idk much about steam levels/badges or whatever

This @OP:steamthumbsup:, backlogs are a blessing (or a curse, depends in how each person sees it) of gaming as a hobby.
