They already elected a third party. Or did you forget how the entirety of the Republican party did everything in their power to sink Trump's campaign in 2016? He has an R by his name, that's about it. But he is your third party and all the attacks from both sides that go with anybody who challenges the two party system.

Democracies are always 2 party systems, even those democracies that try to give the illusion of having more, such as Germany, always end up with left vs right coalition which is always led by the same groups (because the parties within the coalitions tend to maintain their relative levels of strength and support and when they do change the major figures just play musical chairs).

A third part is just a spoiler vote that causes the side the third party is on to lose. Ross Perot is a nice US example, if he hadn't screwed around we'd have never had the Clinton presidency and we'd have never had the changes to the CRA so we'd have never had the 2008 crash (though of course we might have had something similar or possibly even worse).

It's all a uniparty for the most part. Both current parties serve the corporate interests. I can't see that changing any time soon. So changing to a new party doesn't necessarily change the dynamic that is destroying America right now. Get rid of lobbying (or nerf it) and make third parties viable and the country would be a lot more democratic going forward.
