So far every person I've seen getting disappeared has been the working stiffs. I have yet to see any "gang bangers" or whatever types being hauled off. Despite all the hype I'm pretty sure DC has the same same crime rate as before the three ring weekend warrior circus came to town as well....

I’ll be darned if I was in the military. For one I probably won’t past the physical because you have to be in good physical condition to be in the military.

The regime you are referring to is Nazi Germany which chose to murder German civilians who happened to be of another religion.

Something which is currently happening in Syria, China, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and a whole lot of African and Muslim countries. It even happened in Britain on Yom Kippur. No one on the left seems to be upset about the genocide of Christians currently happening in Syria. But it is not currently happening in the US. No matter how much you might lie about it.

The crime rate in DC as shown by actual police statistics shows a 49% drop in violent crime after the National Guard took over. That's undeniable when even the left aligned media is forced to report on it, although it does its best to avoid giving the credit where the credit is due.

My wife is military. The service continues even when the pay does not; the old, dumbass joke about "being government property" isn't all that far from the truth, when you consider that guys I went to BCT with ate extra duty for failure to use sunscreen in the South Carolina summer.

Federal workers are either furloughed, or working without pay (see also: air traffic controllers and some law enforcement agencies).

We're expected to just weather all of this while a bunch of independently wealthy douchebags on Capitol Hill have performative temper tantrums--and continue to draw a paycheck all the while. This is a broken system, and it needs to damn well change; denial of retirement benefits for any politician who votes to shut down the government would be a good start--make it *cost something*, and the people pushing the shutdown button will be much less likely to do it.

It just depends how long it goes on for. If you were not getting paid, how long would it take you to feel the financial stress? Maybe you have a nest egg that could tide you over, maybe you don't. It's not going to be much different for much of the military. Some will have savings that can cover them for awhile, others won't and struggle relatively quickly.

People tend to significantly overestimate what percentage of the military lives in the barracks and think it's the vast majority. It's not even the majority, let alone 'vast'. With all that said though, previous shutdowns (this is seriously my third....) there were emergency relief funds set up to provide interest free loans and such to ease the burden.
