US Government Shutdown #2
The 2nd one since 2019 (Trump's 1st term) now arrives in 2025 (Trump's 2nd term)...

In which all the Democrats had a full seat and none (except 1) of the Republicans showed up!

Republicans hold all 3 areas, so this is entirely on Trump and his admin. Why? Because he doesn't want fair US Healthcare and rather give tax breaks to the Billionaires.

ICE Agents will go without pay.

US National Guards will go without pay.

Air Traffic Controllers and Airport Security Officers without pay.

4 million federal employees without pay.

The FDA can't ensure that the livestock (meat, milk and eggs) are safe for people to eat.

Why does this always happen under Trump?

Trump wants to do DOGE Cuts again...

Last time, DOGE ended up costing the US tax payers $22.7 billion, rather than saving $2 trillion as claimed.

The only way the democratic party wouldn't hold any responsibility is if none of them voted to shut down the government, and more importantly, invoking cloture on debate requires 60 votes in the senate[www.senate.gov], but republicans currently only have 53 senators[about.bgov.com], so democrats can use a filibuster to shut down the government by refusing to pass the budget. There will also likely be backpay. This is definitely the case for the troops.

US meat, eggs, chicken, apples and milk are banned from imports in a lot of other countries, they sure as hell aren't 100% safe to eat anyway.

And Trump is a pedo and a convicted felon, the only reason he became president is that he likes money. Nothing more and nothing less.

Bah, we've done this literally like 16 times in the last 40-50 years.

The government not functioning is a proud American tradition :steamhappy:

Nobody really cares. The states are the ones that would have any impact on normal people, but that won't ever happen.

Do keep in mind that it were the Republicans who ended slavery and the Democrats who fought to maintain it.

No one is really only good or only evil... we all have our dark side and light side.

I have seen that claim a few times now.
Turns out it is correct, but not in the way you want to use it. Back then thhe Republicans were the left/progressives and the democrats the right/conservative.

Which means the people of the right today wouldnt associate with the republican party back then, they would support democrats.

Do keep in mind that the parties have effectively flipped since the Civil War, particularly with regard to the Southern Strategy, rendering the "akshully" play folks keep trying with the dissolution of slavery little more than a tacit admission of historical ignorance--or willful intellectual dishonesty.

Either way, a poor attempt at a "gotcha," and a generally bad look.

"[...] when they talk about the government shutdown, they’re going to be talking about the president of the United States, who the president was at that time. They’re not going to be talking about who was the head of the House, the head the Senate, who’s running things in Washington. So I really think the pressure is on the president."

"If you say who gets fired, it always has to be the top. Problems start from the top, and they have to get solved from the top, and the president’s the leader, and he’s got to get everybody in a room, and he’s got to lead. And he doesn’t do that, he doesn’t like doing that, that’s not his strength."

"Leadership: Whatever happens, you're responsible. If it doesn't happen, you're responsible."

- Dementia Donnie about government shutdowns

He also implied plenty of times that an incompetent president is to blame for a shutdown. But of course this was when he wasn't president.

Edit: Thanks to the evil Democrats who support healthcare that would benefit million Americans, mainly red states there's a shutdown. Turns out Republicans don't really care about their people. Everything to own the libs.

It's always different when *he* does it.

Between this mess and the absolute *stone silence* with which the General Officers and Senior NCOs of our nation's military met him and Kegseth at their little dog-and-pony show at Quantico yesterday, there shouldn't be any doubt left that this is an administration of unqualified, performative clowns.

Government by FOXNews chyron is not a model I thought we'd ever have to teach in Civics, but here we are, hurtling along the Wall-e timeline.
