Movies that predicted the future
I can only think of three:
-Idiocracy
-A Scanner Darkly
-Terminator (there is a company in Japan called Cyberdyne... and they make robots)

There was originally four, Contagion , which I added because I heard many people say it predicted COVID.
Many users were quick to point out that's not the case, so I got rid of it.

You got rid of your cool picture!
Scanner Darkly and Terminator are scarily realistic now.
HAve not seen the other two films.

Rise of Michael Rimmer has become quite accurate with polling and the general trend to having a reduced process of governing.
- An old film and very worth watching. A man shows up at an advertising agency and says 'My name is Michael Rimmer and I am from Coordination' and proceeds to 'coordinate'.

I changed my picture for Halloween, this is temporary. My Nicolas Cage picture will come back at the end of Halloween.

Anyway, 'A Scanner Darkly' is eerily accurate for me because in England right now, the British Government is harvesting data so they can see what you're doing on your phone as per the Online Safety Act.
In 'A Scanner Darkly' (both the novel and the movie), it takes place in a world where everything you do is recorded.

I don't think its fair to put contagion in here as the makers and actors in the movie were the same people who did the scamdemic in the real world including acting as news anchors in both the tv promo as well as later as LARP or whatever you wanna call it when guy who plays news anchor in the show is also news anchor for real. For C-class people like this their entire life is kinda a LARP anyway.

I see your point.
I added it because I heard many people say it predicted COVID and, to be honest, I kind of saw where they were coming from.

Well none have predicted the future just touched on topics that have been disccussed since forever and already happened at different situations and very different scales

- AI
- Judge Dread (what happens if crime is allowed to fester uncontrollably)
- Demolition Man (presentation of societal extremes)
- Equilibrium (supression of emotion and how emotions are important to humans)
- Surrogates (People not accepting their imperfections so they live through bots)
- Elysium (if Class disparity is allowed to reach extremes)
- V for Vendetta
- Outbreak (1995) like Contagion
- Dante's Peak
- An inconvinient Truth (there might be older movies about the topic besides just documentaries)
...

Series
- Extrapolations
- Altered Carbon
...

I think 'The Net' predicted identity theft online. The film didn't predict it accurately, but the film sort of predicted the concept of it.

if you think it's only now that your data is harvested. then you are decades too late, im afraid.

This happened pre internet, for example when you used your credit card etc.

Good point, I've thought that too. Love that movie, I can relate to the Bullock character.

That's not really what I meant by that, but I'm not blaming you for getting it wrong. I didn't word my comment properly.

Blade Runner. Photo-enhancement scene where Deckard is using voice-controlled AI.
Also, Gattaca and genetic engineering with embryos

The best examples are so subtle that a modern viewer can't see it. Some of Jacques Tati's comedies* like Mon Oncle, PlayTime and Trafic, seem quite prescient. They lampooned trends in modern architecture, urban planning, and social behaviour as they were starting to emerge in 50s and 60s Europe. Ie. Cookie-cutter homes and workplaces where form is valued over function... people who are obsessed with idealism and the latest gadgets... tourists who travel more for a marketed idea of the destination than the reality. Within twenty years most of these things were completely normalised for everybody in the west.

* Mr Bean stole a *lot* of material from Tati btw, and dumbed it down.
