Another user on Another topic said about hand drawn graphics for FF6.
I don't want to derail the other thread and this got me thinking.

A Final Fantasy hand drawn / hand drawn style type of graphics.
I am already imagining how that could really work for the FF 7.
Cut out a lot of the random encounters, build XP faster, gain XP through decisions over just random encountering - battles still give XP but decisions will give more to character development.
More Visual Novel / Choose your own adventure style but open world still.

More what you do affects the outcome of the world and less of the 'follow this path and enjoy the experience' type of play.

With Hand drawn /hand drawn style type of art it will look like art and more personable.
Not everything being anime cliche look either.
