some australian reporter named their kid something absolutely terrible as a joke not too long ago and it got through

it is very filling and cheap alternative to steak and fries

I just find it strange that the best food item to come out of the UK is a pre made can of baked beans on top of a premade slice of bread. Didn't they create a global empire in search of things like spices and better food? And yet, today, beans on toast is the best they can come up with.

I feel like no one should know about beans and toast. Next we will have people from Aus talking about Vegemite and toast, which also should not be known.

vegemite is good for certain things, it has a bad image because people literally eat it out of the jar like nutella and then instantly call it terrible without actually trying it properly

Seriously though, beans on toast disgusts me. Not because of its attributes as a food item, but because it's a disingenuous poverty fetishization.

Beans on toast is something you'd see a lot of around wartime, or in the Thatcher era, when that's what people had to eat because they didn't have ♥♥♥♥ all.

Now, it's treated like some item of national pride, while all the socioeconomic symptoms and reasons why the country got to the point where it was common at any time are whitewashed or swept under the rug.
