Owning what you buy I think.
I’m pretty sure it still requires you to come online every so often (like most streaming services with download options), but I could be wrong, maybe that’s changed at some point.
It does sicken me how many purely (or mostly) single-player experiences lock access to their game behind an internet connection (either via anti-piracy software or a third party launcher). I try to avoid those games as much as possible since I’m a Steam Deck only player ATM regarding Steam and while I usually have Wi-Fi, sometimes I don’t.
At least one of the companies with an obnoxious launcher recently gave me an excellent reason to never waste another cent on their games (EA).
As your Steam credentials expire after some time offline I think
Or even put a disc into my CD/DVD drive, maybe have the disc scratched and I have to buy it again.
Maybe floppy disks that failed too often and ruined it.
I don't really see a problem with today's DRM.
GoG is no guarantee of there being no DRM
Genuine question: Since when? AFAIK that’s one of their main selling points. No DRM + you OWN your games (instead of a license to play them).
Because you can still be subject to the licenses of 3rd party games. Just because GoG may or may not enforce it, doesn't mean you are free and clear.
You're also wrong to make an universal conclusion. Some games on Steam come without or largely without DRM. Such as Terraria, FNAF, and Cyberpunk 2077. So not every game on Steam must be run with Steam. So, you're defending Valve from something they don't even universally do, therefore making it you to blame them for the DRM.
I have not offended you, yet you see the need to resort to personal attacks. Blocked.
Even in the old retail days..
A person who did pirated did spend on average 400 euro extra on games per year.
so it leads to more sales not less.
The only ones bothing about piracy are the biggest studios.. Which with piracy actually may loose revenue due their scam of hyped bad products not works it people sample before buying.
A world with legal piracy is as a cottonfarm with paid workers.. It makes 40 million and each of the thousand pluckers workers gets 40000 a tear
Those who try to criminalise piracy is the slave owner who not cares the plantation only makes 1 million.. As long as he is the one who gets it. even if the 99 others het nothing..
The idea that each pirated copy = a lost sesale ofcourse is bullocks..
Anti piract polices like when steam drm was added to fysical games are all about greed and control.
