Video game 'testers' when a certain weapon in the multiplayer mode is broken beyond relief (they'll pledge to make a gentleman's agreement to not tell the developers this so the game will suck when it releases).

The customers are the 'testers' now.

But it used to be a really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ gig where you'd think "oh boy I get to play games!" but really it's just about testing every menu switch until something breaks, or running into every wall until a character gets stuck, or picking up and dropping every item to see if they use the right models...

Companies now get paid by the testers.

I use to get paid 20 an hour to play. Did that for 4 years while working another job. Was like my side job I could do at work. Stopped doing it Got way better career now, they still hiring in Austin tx.

Depends in what industry.

For gaming e.g. you do not have video game testers - you have debuggers.

Video game testers are only with opinion industry or child protection.

What a beta tester is supposed to do is essentially assist in locating bugs and improving overall user experience. Course the difference between a debugger and a beta tester is that the former is paid in fiat while the latter is paid in early access. Hell, when it comes to Early Access, you're basically paying to beta test a game.

Which is kind of stupid when you think about it. But then again, so is not owning your games.

They do more than play games. It’s basically a quality check. You play to see if everything runs smoothly and how it’s suppose to. Sometimes you fiddle around with things to see if it breaks the game or not.
