That would assume that females back then are weak.
Something we do not know actually as a lot has evolved over time like e.g. big breasts.
From a religious viewpoint: a lot of indigenous / natural people, including old civilisations, consider god of creation always as goddess - as it is only logical to follow nature where the female give birth to life.
In a more sophisticated version from the east, gender matters little as it is to be said that both: male and female, each holding up half of the heavens. Without the other none would exist nor sustain.
