People like Elon Musk would rather go to Mars than cure something.
Truth is, it's just hard to cure a serious disease without destroying the whole body with it, but we're getting there. Cancer death rates have been steadily declining since the 1990s, HIV is no longer a death sentence, and even treatments for Huntington's disease (which causes fatal dementia in your 30s, absolutely horrible) have seen a major breakthrough a few weeks ago.
Space exploration is as important as medical research imo. Too bad the man lost his damn mind.
If they found a vast amount of gold or diamonds on Mars everyone would wanna go there and stake their claim.
If Musk got cancer it would be great, He'd find a cure.
We talk about saving costs but all we do is dreaming a fever dream where the snakeoil salesmen rule the world.
The biotech companies is a cult just like the church. But them have no cure, then how can we say that them are to be believed when 1/2 of biotech is based on praying to god that the body may heal itself.
Removing the pain until the body finds a way, buying time for the cells to repair.
The way it works we can't cure a wound, it has to heal and it will never heal if there's no wound.
Cells need to be promoted to growth to repair the body but certain cells are sort of programmed to never growth by the problematics of cancer growth.
At certain age you may as young be able to recover from wounds while at old age these damages on the body are permanent.
A majority of the wounds we can't repair is in the brain. The nails growth back by constantly growing, your feets and arms has no limit to how much it can increase in length but the brain is an exoskeleton with organs who will never growth.
We lose braincells and the brain is good at compensating damages. But overtime you lose the ability to multitasking or empathy. It is why old people are apathetic in nature or people with brain damage act robotic.
Most medicines do not cure. If it was a cure it would end their income.
Oh, the solar system is rich in minerals beyond belief, but it'll be another century or two before we can grab it.
As for Musk, he'd be as likely to die as any other rich man lol. We tend to think it's just a problem of resource allocation, but in truth we just haven't figured out how to reliably beat all the cancers.
If you asked me, say, what comes after death, I wouldn't know whether you gave me a dollar or 50 billions.
Actually that's the wrong attitude, You should tell people you do know what happens after death, After you pocket the 50 billion you won't have to worry about money.
Trepanning.
Or perhaps amputation.
What will become of you when you are gone.
