Genesis golden era was Trespass to Wind And Wuthering.
Yes ,The Yes Album to Going For The One.
Tull, This Was to Heavy Horses.
(That's from the album of the same name. Many people prefer Cynic's original, and for a long time only, album, Focus from '93, but I like the new stuff.)

(They started out as one of the Big Three of British Doom Metal and then decided they wanted to be Pink Floyd. I prefer the doom metal, but I still like what they've become. I'd say as far back as Alternative 4 they really started showing their prog influences.)

(Former Genesis guitarist. You can't go wrong with any Hackett. Guitar Noir and Darktown are probably my favourites. His album Metamorpheus is also brilliant, but it's no prog.)
Dream Theater 1994
Meshuggah 1995
Beyond what has already been shared...

There's a few. I highly recommend Numph since you mentioned Tool. They recently relased thier first album and have a really great sound.
Also, if you want to continually find new bands I post prog bands to my groups weekly post. You will find it on my profile.
Good call. Yes is an all time fav right along with Tull.
You could venture also into jazz with bands like Mahavishnu Orchestra.
Their jazz rock albums,The Inner Mounting flame and Birds Of Fire or the more symphonic Apocalypse produced by George Martin of Beatles fame.
Brand X Phil Colllins on drums with albums Morrocan Roll and Unorthodox Behaviour.
On the American side,Frank Zappa,One Size Fits All album is terrific ,as is Joe's Garage.
The Tubes, another great American band ,I love their first two albums personally, the first album has orchestra parts.
Must haves are Tull's Thick As A Brick,Yes, The Yes Album,Genesis ,Selling England By The Pound or my fav The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway,Trick Of The Tail and Wind And Wuthering are great albums when Phil took over vocal duties.
Big Big Train- English Electric Full Power
Tears for Fears- Raoul and the Kings of Spain
Riverside- Love, Fear and the Time Machine
Pineapple Thief, Lunatic Soul, Radiohead, Blackfield, Tori Amos are all really good at crossing over Prog and Alternative.
Dream Theater is my favorite but classic Genesis is the GOAT.
