Why do people feel like its too late to get into a series ?
I constantly hear this from friends via IRL, online , and even people I've just met for the first time. For instance , i have this one good friend of mine and she's just as much of a gamer as i am . We both graduated at the same college and both still have free time to game. She'll often say things like " man... i wish i could get into this game it looks great " . She'll even have the game in some cases with the freetime to play but she won't know where to start .

Others whom I've come across will asking questions such as :
" How do i get into the hidetaka miyazaki games ? "
" Dude ... you're actually going to go way back and hunt down the kingdom hearts AND final fantasy games you never got to play ? How will you ever be able to play them ? Its so many. "

People often ask questions similar to these and its so strange . All you have to do is simply pick a game you like and start it . Its really that simple yet some people feel like they're " behind " . It's not a race , nor competition. I mean with the amount of remakes and remasters getting tossed around I'd say their is still millions of gamers who play older titles all the time. I don't understand the whole feeling " behind " thing .

FINAL FANTASY , and KINGDOM HEARTS are two series i missed out on as a kid . Crisis core Hooked me in 7th grade but i had no money for the others. Now i do and I'm going to hop in and still be able to play KH4 when it comes out. The way i see it you're never really behind but I'm curious ....

Do you guys feel that you are behind , or that its too late ?

I never feel likes it's late however many people want to chat with others so the timing is off if they don't watch it during first air time.

The longer you leave it, the more outdated and forgotten it becomes. And the older it is, the harder it is to get into it, unless you already have nostalgia for it because you played it when it was relevant.

ok but how does a single player game become irrelevant ? Its all about what you personally like right ? I mean the whole point of single player games is to explore and enjoy a story , or challenging bosses . Like one guy thought it was too late to get into dark souls .... too late ? I said multiplayer ? He said no single player . I don't understand how the difficulty some how increases for simply clicking play on a game .

I think the issue is that some people try to keep up with other gamers and i feel like you'll make yourself miserable doing that . I mean the point of gaming is to play what you personally like whenever you want . I also feel that nothing is wrong with playing an older series if it genuinely grabs your attention .

in the case of an anime i think the problem here is that on one hand you want to watch it for 1 reason . On the other hand you're looking at it as if its a chore due to the number of episodes . Anime is typically 18 min per episode so its about 3 ep an hour . Adds up pretty quickly but the thing is ... are you watching it to enjoy it or hurry up and finish it ? You should enjoy the anime not try to watch it as fast as you can.

Better than Milky Holmes, I can tell you that. Cute girl detectives don't make up for them being dumb as a box of rocks that do very little detecting.

It's very hard for me, because of the fear of missing out. I've missed the early discussions, the fan theories, that one broken item build, the limited-time modes and skins. I've missed it all, and there's no going back.

It's easy for me to just shove it all aside, completely reject a series and criticize it, because it's much harder to come to terms with the fact that you missed something you might have really enjoyed.

It's easy to get into a single-player series late. That's easy. But multiplayer? It's hard not to feel regret for all the times you passed up playing the game/series, and all the things you've missed.

I can understand other forms of entertainment too. You can't go back to the times before Kentaro Miura, the author of Berserk, died. Back when people were excited for the next release. That old excitement and hype is gone. Sure, the series is still around, there'll be more in the future, but you've missed the best of something.

well in your case you must be referring to an online only game . I was referring to offline single player rpg games that are lengthy . Yet... even with some online mmo games some of them still have the older stuff on servers for new players to experience but i guess it depends on the game. Oh lol i just finished reading the next part yea single player lol that's what i meant.

You can still find excitement in things you still haven't experienced single player wise but yea multiplayer that's done with. However the good thing about multiplayer is that they keep making new games and you can always just hop into a new one . The way i see is like this : I've been gaming for years but i can't experience every single game that will ever be created . So i just keep playing what i can and what I'm able to enjoy. Ever since thinking like that i now have a massive library across various platforms that's I've actually finished all the way to the end.

Yea online games like wow with no ending is a bit much for me because i like to play many games. A 300hr long game like the witcher is fine for me but ENDLESS ??? lol it has to end sometime .

Sometimes a series isn't super accessible to get into without sailing the seven seas (or having a small fortune through retro consoles and being able to afford probably-rare games).

For a series like Kingdom Hearts or Megaman, getting into it is relatively easy since all the important games are on the current gen of consoles through collections.

But for something like Sonic? You're lucky to find any pre-ps4 era games on current gen. Unleashed counts as a technicality with xbox backwards compat, colors got a remaster, Sonic 1-3/CD got ported...that's about it. SA1/SA2, Heroes, Shadow, so much more you're out of luck unless you want to whip out the old PS2/PS3.

Why sink time into getting invested if most of the games aren't easily available to you? It feels awkward liking a series but you've only played a small portion of the games because all the others are hard to get legitimately.

As for movies: because you are unable to watch them anymore

As for games: the more outdated the game becomes (and/or the more dead it becomes in some cases) ,the less desire you will have to play it...

Ppl feel like playing old games because of nostalgia, but yeah when you never played a game you cannot be nostalgic about it so the desire to play older games decreases more and more

Also what if someone has other hobbies too? Gaming can become more a problem of time management v:
