What is 2K resolution?
Is there a consensus what 2K is?

4K has different versions. The most popular is 3840 x 2160 but I’ve also seen 4096x2160 and 3840 x 1644 or even 3840x1440p considered as 4K.

But for the sake of argument lets assume 3840 x 2160 is what people mean by 4K. Close to 4000 horizontal pixels.

Is 2K is half of 4K?
Half of pixels in horizontal line? 1920x1080p in such case?

Or is it 2560x1440p? But then how when it’s so far off? Or is 2K a 2048 x 1080 resolution? Like it is defined by television standards?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2K_resolution

——————————
- 2K (DCI 2K): 2048 x 1080
- Full HD (1080p): 1920 x 1080 (sometimes referred to as 2K by some people, but not technically accurate)
- QHD (Quad HD): 2560 x 1440 (also called 2.5K)
- 4K (UHD): 3840 x 2160 (commonly used in consumer TVs and monitors)
- 4K (DCI 4K): 4096 x 2160 (used in the film industry)

No, there isn't.
I think most people would agree what 1080P is, and 1440P and 4K, but then it all falls apart when you consider 3440x1440, 3840x1600 and 2560x1080 which are all popular resolutions.

2K, 4K, etc. don't actually exist as far as monitor technologies, they're just buzzwords for marketing purposes.

3840x2160 isn't 4K because 4K is actually 4096x2160p.

2560x1440 definitely isn't 2K because 2K is 2048x1080, which puts it closer to 1920x1080 and follows the same exact scaling as 3840x2160, which means if 3840x2160 were to be 4K, then 1080p has to be 2K.

It would be far simpler to burn marketing BS to the ground, it has no place.

Guess what ?
Many people don't even go this far into the search just for the sake of " universal knowledge" and prefer gaming in " 4K 4096 x 2160" .

It's the same exact problem with marketing arguments like " AI in video games is the future, get 10000 FPS with DLSS 4 and a revolutionnary upscaling technology for "high detailed gaming".

Key words: " FPS and high detail"
Problem: UPSCALING...... which is only virtual, meaning technically not "existant" as the given resolution limited by the material border of your computer screen.

This is how every AI GFX card prones upscaling and FPS boost for an even worse quality of image full of blurr, artifacts and ugly surface particles bombing from Path Tracing or Ray tracing...

These RT/PT technologies are far from being optimized for games, very far.

I just want it to look nice and my Nvidia 40 series does that very well

1k = 1920 x 1080
2k = 2560 x 1440
4k = 3840 x 2160

There are a lot of strange marketing terms. For example, Mini-LED is completely different monitor/TV technology than OLED. Or that USB 3.0 is the same as USB 3.2 Gen 1x1, while USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 is 4x times faster than USB 3.2 Gen 1x1.

it comes from the assumption that 4K is 4 times 1080p, therefore 1080p must be 1K, which makes sense because of its vertical 1k resolution, and so 1440p must be 2K etc

none of this confusion existed until 4K started being used as a marketing term, maybe they should have called it 4X HD

Even with this assumption and total pixel count the term would still be wrong as 1440p is not exactly half way between 1080p and 4K.
1440 is closer to 1080p with about 1,778x more pixels. While 4K has more than double number of pixels of 1440p. 2.25x more.

2K is a very wrong term to describe gaming monitors regardless of how we look at it and the closest gaming resolution to actual 2K is 1920x1080. 1440p would be 2.5K.

You asked what it is I'm just telling you what it is.
Rod 2 月 16 日 上午 6:35
To me 4k is 4096x2160 and 2k is 1920x1080. 1440p is 2.5k imo.
Numlock587 2 月 16 日 上午 6:38
1440p is quad high definition. Don't redefine it, it just confuses people.
i never have anybody heared 1440p 2k before.

but if we were to use proper numbers
1440p has 3.7 million picels
2160p has 8.3 million pixels.

or 4k is 2.25 x 1440
so if 8.3 million pixels is somehow 4k
than 1440 should be 1.78k not 2k.
and 1080p whivh fits exactly 4 times in 2160p would be 1k

i tink refering to
2.7M
3.7M
8.3M
is clearer.
