Just installed a new RTX 5070 - Now I get frame drops
Hello,

just today I recieved my new RTX 5070 to replace my aging 3070.

I plugged it into the PCIE slot and connected it with 2 PCIE cables from my PSU with a 16-slot adapter, 12VHPWR I think it is called.

My PSU is SeaSonic Prime Titanium 650W.

CPU is 5600X

16GB DDR4 3600mhz in 2 slots, my board only has 2 slots, mini atx.

However games now have bad frametime and stutter.

I have 144fps locked then it drops 20 or 30 frames to 100.

I turn around in a game and I get hitches and stutters.

WHat could it be?

I seated the GPU correctly I think.

I used 2 PCIE cables coming form my PSU with the 12VHPWR pigtail adapter.

Do I need to reinstall Windows?

I uninstalled RTX 3070 drivers with DDU and reinstalled RTX 5070 drivers.

Newest Windows 10.

Is my GPU defective?

Bios update
Is it important? How come?
The short answer is , if motherboard is older than your GPU, always update bios

I just wonder wether it is the likely culprit? Or is there anything else I could try first? I heard motherboard updates are hard or dangerous?
Sounds a bit like driver recovery, usually dips down to a freeze while it recovers though, maybe a fresh install will fix it, you could scan Windows to see if it is corrupt somewhere.

"Open Command Prompt as an administrator:
Search for "cmd," right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as administrator.
Run the DISM command first:
Type DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and press Enter. This may take several minutes, and it's normal for it to appear stuck at times.
Run the SFC command:
After DISM completes, type sfc /scannow and press Enter to scan for and repair corrupted system files.
Restart your computer
if prompted or if the commands report any repairs."

Look in event viewer to see if it's the driver, you should see somewhere
"Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

Jump up to Win11 if you're going to do a fresh install, you can get a Win11 key for about £/$4.

Not too fond of Win11 tbh, do you think my problem can be fixed or somethings terribly amiss?

You don't need to update BIOS for a new GPU usually unless it has some new feature it needs like ReBar that's not in an older BIOS, it's safe to do though I've done hundreds and nothing has gone wrong, that said it can in rare cases like a power out mid way.

Read the rest of what I put and try that, come back if it still happens, you need to be proactive and test, no one is going to show up saying click this and hey presto it's fixed.
No one is being honest with you, but, relative to the 5070, your pc is garbage. Everything about it is garbage except the 5070.

Put the 3070 back in.

Thats quite rude, what do you mean by garbage? I cannot afford a better PC. My GPU was my bottleneck so I upgraded it so i can play Cyberpunk and Red Dead at 1440p.

Care to elaborate?
Have u enabled resizable ReBAR in bios? I've heard that 40/50 series can take advantage of its feature. Basically it allows the CPU to directly access the GPU’s entire VRAM. But havent tried it myself.
Also, your 5070 is way faster than your old gpu., So, it could be bottleneck
You are running a PCIE5 card in a PCIE4 computer.

You are running it in 8 lanes of PCIE4.
You need to replace everything now.
*also the 50 series drivers still suck I believe.

also haha your 3070 kicked its asz.
