New monitor - 1440p or 4k? IPS or OLED?
I'm thinking a 4k monitor as it scales properly with native 1080p content. I'd rather have lower settings at 4k than the scaling issues of 1440p. 1440p would be okay for pure gaming, but like most people I use my PC for other things as well. What do people here think? Also, is OLED worth the premium and potential burn in risk over IPS?

1080p (fhd) display perfectly on 4k (2160p) since its scaled evenly 2:1
same as 720p (hd) to 1440p (qhd), also 2:1

how big of a display are you looking for?
imho, 27-32 is nice for 1440p
40+ for 4k

for gaming/movies pretty much any can be ok
but for cad or work where you need to distinguish between pixels around 100 ppi/dpi is a good target when the display is at arms length

as for ips vs oled
ips if great yet, can get good response times and low power and no screen burn

oled can be good, but turn off the display/pc or use screensaver set to off when idle for more than a few minutes, to help prevent screen burn
its other features can help reduce or hide image burn, or burn the entire screen evenly

Burn in is definitely an issue, but for me, the more serious problem is..

And the fact that i need to do pixel refresh every 4 hours

If there were more high end non oled 32:9 monitors, i wouldv gone for non oled monitor

Depends on the size really. I went with 1440p because I bought a 27 inches monitor.
Well think of what you want, OLED is the best for gaming hands down just due to the insane pixel response but not without it's issues like you can see VRR flicker more due to the insane response times meaning you can't use VRR if it bothers you, it bothers me so I don't use VRR.

Framerate, if you like high FPS 1440P but if you're fine with lower FPS but want the sharpest image going 4K, I went with 1440P even with a 5090 because I love the high frames.

Burn in, I've had mine just over 2 years now and it's fine but I'm semi cautious with it's use and have a second IPS monitor for anything that might be static for quite some time, Discord and such.

Yeah mine is a bit over cautious and pops up I think 4 hours too, I just turned off the reminder and do it once after I've had a blast for sometime, no burn in, well I guess I do but uniformed burn in.
poor VA panels left in the cold again lol.

I have a 240hz va panel 27" no flicker, no smearing, perfect image and only cost me £220, has picture in picture, 2 hdmi, dp, usb c/ alt dp. i find 1440p a good balance as 4k can still be too much for some games especially when playing high refresh. gotta have me some high refresh.

the brand MSI, never had any issues with them so far.

It also accepts 4k signals from any consoles attached too so can use all the 4k features from console IF i ever turn them on.

I also forget to mention that I tend to play in a lit room, so some of the advantages of OLED become less so.

Yeah, no lol. I don't have the space for a glorified TV on my desk. My tower and a 24 inch monitor already take up half of it. I was thinking 32 inch for 4k, but 27 inch for 1440p looks okay. I'm just worried about the potential scaling issues. Still want a 2 monitor setup.

I never do manual pixel refresh myself... imo the key for longetivity is too use a screensaver, have the monitor turn off after a few minutes and don't use more brightness than you need. I rarely go over 18% brigthness on my monitor for regular use outside of HDR content stuff (which is far different from desktop usage where high brightness would lead to the most burn in over time) you'll be fine.

Got 1600+ hours so far and its like new still and I use it a lot for work/productivty.
