9070xt VRAM usage

My (16gb) 6900xt died so I had to upgrade. Got the 9070xt, also 16gb.

I'm noticing my VRAM usage increased significantly, somehow. Nothing changed except the GPU. Same games. Same res, maybe a bit less FSR.

On Forza Motorsport I get a message that I ran out of VRAM. Never happened on my 6900xt.

BF6 also using 15.7gb running like crap but no warning. It ran about 12-14gb on my 6900xt.

And then a few more games I don't remember atm.

Idle VRAM usage is between 2-3gb which seems high, but I remember my 6900xt being about the same.

What the hell? Why would there be any difference at all?? Is FSR4 using extra VRAM? Does frame gen?

Running the game at 4k native resolution?

Standard 16:9 monitor or widescreen?

Running more than 1 monitor? Other apps open?

Vram usage at idle is odd. Try restarting the pc and see what the vram usage is at?

Press windows key + x and open task manager. In processes up at the top click on the word name or status (a list should appear) and add gpu.

Go through the settings and reduce vram usage.

Isn't it because the newer gpu is caching more aggressively? Can u tell us the exact details? Like textures, RT, FSR4, wheter frame gen is on, Also, the driver version, shader pre-compilation status, background overlays?

It's a memory leak. Dice is going to fix it soon, but in the meantime, turn the texture quality to a different setting, and then turn in back. That simple change fixes it for a while. It doesn't get annoying either because it only takes around 6 seconds.
