In the future get a local pro to fix it instead.
To be honest... nothing could be considered normal use after about 1 year cause really that's about as long as you can expect all those buttons and triggers to hold up. They need to be self maintained like you would with a game controller.
Most 3rd party repair places would probably charge more than that just for their labor. How is Valve "refusing accountability of their product" when they offered you a 2 year warranty period (p.s. it's a 1 year warranty period for most places, unless your countries minimum warranty period requires 2 years) for parts and labor, the product worked during that period, and after that period you had an issue which they still provide you with an option to have them diagnose the issue and provide you with a pre-repair quote for the out-of-warranty repair that you can either approve or decline without an upfront cost.
Valve has also made nearly all of the parts available for purchase through iFixit so people as well as 3rd party repair shops can get parts to repair them.
