Hardware troubleshoot: random CPU led highlight, and system crash.
Hi, I am trying to diagnose my PC. Its current symptom:

The PC can boot, and for awhile, it is functioning normally. And at random, but always happens, all peripherals go dark. Monitor, mouse, keyboard, Headset.
Fans are still running, but in the motherboard, the CPU led diagnostic is highlighted. I am unable to perform Hard Reset via Power Button, and I am forced to yank out the plug to power it off. Which resets the cycle. It boots, can play for maybe 15 minutes, then symptom occurs.

Note that I do not have the tools and confidence to completely disassemble my PC, but these are the things I've tried.

- Clean the system unit, replaced thermal paste.
- Reset CMOS.
- Replace RAM.
- Re-seat RAM.
- Re-seat GPU.

I know for a fact that this is a hardware issue, but I am unable to pin point if it is the PSU or Motherboard. The system can still boot in BIOS so I am at a fence.

Here's my specs
CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
GPU: AMD RX 6600
RAM: Two, 8GB DDR4 3200
Motherboard: b450 Mortar Max
PSU: Corsair 450w +80 Bronze.
Age: 5 years. GPU Age, 1 year.

I know 450w is low on this specs, but I was still able to use the entire system for a year after the GPU upgrade.

Any advice would be appreciated.

it's not PSU, it's CPU or Mobo, try using 1 RAM on slot 4 only , if even 1 RAM still happen, definietly CPU

I will try this out. But just for context, both RAM modules are new. If it does work, does that mean the RAM slot in mobo is faulty?

The PSU is a bit low and I would want at least 600w gold personally. Check CPU temps also and finally, go to the mobo manufacturer and cpu manufacturer and make sure you have the latest drivers and bios and stuff. Also update to the newest version of your OS and make sure everything is up to date.

mostly RAM fault is always start with freeze, and nothing you can do execpt switch off PSU, if it was blackscreen it's your system protect from something broken, CPU and RAM is always connected,
slot mobo faulty when your CPU is faulty, because it has same line
my cousin mobo slot broken because his CPU somehow bended, and only slot 4 is work

I removed 1 RAM module, and left the one on Slot 4. I will get back with an update. The issue usually occurs within 30 minutes.

As for my drivers, yes they are updated. BIOS however, I will need to purchase a Flashdrive and have it modified to be bootable before I can update my BIOS.

Update: Issue still occur. CPU then? Damn..

Boot up with a live distro or Windows based os and see if it still happens. If it's stable, consider re-installing Windows or hang out in bios for that long and see if it crashes.

I will be back with an Update. I am using Win 11, I will stay around in BIOS, see if the issue occurs.

Update: It has been 20 minutes now, and PC is still on. I am on BIOS screen for that long. I will be back in about 1 to 2 hours to give another update. Btw, I still don't get what I need to do after I confirm that I am not experiencing the issue while on BIOS screen.

No idea i mean, cpu will doing cpu job when inside windows, that is why stress test is on windows not bios

Run memtest and leave that going for a good thirty minutes or longer as well as an additional test for stability in a different os and at the same time verify your memory isn't messed up. I'd do that with all sticks put in.

What I'm hoping it turns out to be is that your Windows os is messed up and you just have to re-install to see if in the end it was all just to your Windows os being messed up for whatever reason.

I didn't say this before but you can try taking everything off startup or even Windows safe mode to see if it's stable. It might be a program causing this.

EDIT: I don't believe the problem is the cpu (yet anyways) so you have two different paths of troubleshooting. If you want to believe it's the cpu then do what Fatcat is suggesting, if you think the problem is software, try what I'm saying.

You gotta decide what you think will be a better use of your time I guess.

I have nothing to lose at this point. I'll try software first, then hardware.

Thanks guys, I'll be back tomorrow with the update.

That's going to be a cpu problem.
Talby 11 月 29 日 上午 7:07
I usually boot up a linux live usb like the latest ubuntu desktop and do the basics tests / logs / benchmarks. If it's stable on linux could just be a windows problem.

Over the summer I tried the 25H2 update, failed and my system started crashing with some memory errors in the log. Thought it was legit HW, got new ram, didn't solve the problem :steamsad: confirmed in linux, kicking myself for not doing that first. Although, looking at prices today I am glad to have a spare 2x16G set...

hmm cpu or mobo, tough to narrow down without swap-out testing

PCPP says 289W, so that 450 should not be a problem, possible your mains or outlet has low voltage and causing the psu to drop - but very uncommon outside of over-provisioned apartments... Or that one guy who's neighbor was arc-welding and causing brownouts :steamfacepalm:
