Buying a RTX 5070 - Do I need adapters?
Currently have a RTX 3070 running together with 5600X on a Seasonic Prime Titanium 650W (bought 2017).

Now I want to replace the 3070 with a 5070 since I play on 1440p.

However I just read that I need some sort of adapter to run the 5070?

What cable/adapter would be suitable?

Or can I just use the same plugs that supply my 3070 currently?

Best regards

You would need 16-pin cable from modern PSU that has it or adapter. Adapter usually comes with the card.

psu is from 2017, its 8 years old
might want to invest in a new one for the 5070

the gpu is 250w, will need to use atleast 2 pci-e 6+2 cables to the 12vhpwr adapter
if you use the adapter, make sure you plug them into the correct spots on the adapter for 300w mode

depending on which plugs you plug power into tells the gpu how much power it can draw from it
only 2 in the incorrect spots could tell the gpu it can draw 600w, when 2 connectors are only good for 300w max, or 2 in the other spots will limit the gpu to 150w

If you are upgrading to such a powerful card, I advise upgrading the PSU too by checking out the cultist network list and choosing a high tier model. If you have any doubts, I suggest letting the pros offline change the parts in front of you.

I have a seasonic G650 almost that old - used it with my 5700x3d / 32g / 3070ti for about 2 years then upgraded to a 5070 recently - no problems. Typical Seasonic boss spec +12v@54A and Titanium no less - I would say it's good.

Did you mean the PCI-E / Molex power adapters?

Should work just fine...

Adapter should come with the gpu. Use two seperate psu cables (two 8 pin pcie) to power the gpu vs one + daisy chain/pig tail off one psu cable. Check with a light (phone light?) to see if the connectors all the way in and clipped on the gpu side.

3070 and 5070 have about the same power usage. Power consumption with the 5070 might drop relative to the 3070 depending on if your fps is capped and if the gpu is being maxed out. 5070 might be able to run things easier basically.

12v of the seasonic is ~648w so should be fine.

5600x is about 65w so 65w + 250w = 315 w so lots of leeway on the 648w 12v.

seasonic is solid....its worked this long and you are at what is needed to run everything.....all of them come with a 8 pin to 12 pin adapter in the box....make sure everything is seated on the sockets and you will be fine

just get a deepcool pn850m, good budget PSU and the 12VHPWR is baked into the PSU

Your Seasonic Prime Titanium 650W is a great product and perfectly adequate for this project. There are plenty of 12VHPWR connectors available if it doesn't come with the card.

Any of the RTX 5070 cards should come with a 12V-2x6 to 2x 8-pin PCIe adapter in the box. So if your PSU doesn't have a 12V-2x6 specific output (e.g. it is not an ATX3.1 PSU) then you can use 2x separate 8-pin PCIe power cables. Your 2017 SeaSonic Prime Titanium 650W IIRC will have 5 or 6 power headers for use as either the 8-pin EPS (for CPU supplemental power on your motherboard) or 8pin PCIe for your GPU.

Get an atx 3.1 like the Corsair rm850x which has the adapter you need.

They don't need a new PSU. The PSU they have is perfectly fine and a very good quality PSU. The 2x 8-pin PCIe to 12V-2x6 adapter will come with the GPU.

Okay.
