everything that i've checked is fine like if everything is seated, proper contact and everything is spinning, its just suddenly overheating ever since i played helldivers 2

CPU usage ?

Start with the basics. Give it a good clean. Check all fans are working. Check the fan curves in the bios or whatever software you use. Or you might need to repaste the CPU (remove, clean and reapply thermal paste).

i've done all the basic steps, i'm pretty sure helldivers cooked my CPU as thats apparently an issue with the game and considering the cpu was on its last legs anyway, going to get a new cpu soon, if it keeps doing this i might have to get a new MOBO

and now of course the cpu goes straight back to normal for no apparent reason

its my background stuff like discord and OBS, 15% is idle for me, i don't go through the process of exiting every process for me to have to re-open them and log in for the 40th time 5 seconds later

i ve got Steam open , Chrome as well .it sits at 0-3% fluctuating

for troubleshooting - i d remove the side panel ; check if high performance mode is enabled ,kind of . OBS could be still recording

2. 15% is not idle. It probably means 1 core is running 100%.
3. Reboot to UEFI. Check the temps there.
4. If you have 80C of CPU temp on 15% load - check your cooler. Is the radiator hot? Does the fan works? If CPU is hot (80C) but radiator cool - the cooler is not working.

its fixed itself (mostly) and everything works

You know it is what it is.
80°C in idle is too much, 50°C is a lot aswell, so reset the BIOS settings and turn on XMP, ReBar and 4G decoding.
In Windows set the power plan to balanced.

unless it has no cooler at all

but check task manager to see whats using the cpu

Air, or water cooled?

Clean everything and repaste the CPU. Ryzen 5 3600 has a few years so it might be time.
