Gaming laptop smells like burning
It's not anything from the house i cross checked it
Specs are
GTX 1650 ti
R5 4600hs
2x8gb@3200mhz

It not only started to thermal throttle but also giving off burning smell (and it's really really strong) and while playing under laptop stand, yes the thermal paste is due I will do it soon, what can I do aside from thermal paste? It's like really strong burning smell, it hwmonotor shows 80C for gpu and 70ish for cpu

And the vents smell like burnt toast, what do I do? It's while on a stand so nothing is blocking the vents (Asus Rog g14 2020 model)

Probably there's craps in the vents that heats up and give that smell.

A good old disassembly, repaste and clean would be in order.
Is this laptop new? I think I once read that some new electronic parts (PSU?) can sometimes have a smell for a week or so while they burn in, so to speak. But I've never experienced it myself.

Are you using the correct charger with it?

Those temperatures aren't too high. It's more common to see them in the close to or in the 90C range for laptops.

It's a 5 year old one, I got it second hand (used by my brother than me) and I am using official proprietary charger that came with it
its an older laptop
use an aircompressor to clean its fans and vents

That's the thing, I can't, it's my brother's given to me (it's mine but still scared to do it) other than repaste it's not possible??

You'll probably have to disassemble the whole cooling piping so yeah you'll have to repaste.
I agree, if it's older and (I presume) hasn't done this before, then my first guess would be to clean it of dust.

If it's not your laptop, then you need to communicate to the owner that it smells and may need cleaned, and have him look into things.

Yeah I guess he can try that. But depending on how packed those vents are. It could make it worse too

its a thin and lightweight gaming laptop so from outside its tight, from inside i have no idea

i sprayed can of air in my laptop once and whole truckload of cat fur and dust bunnies came out, it was so satisfying watching it come out and the temps go down

That's awesome when it gets stuck further down the vent. Too!
