1. Check Activation Status
• Go to Settings → System → Activation.
• If Windows isn’t activated, you’ll see a message like “Windows is not activated”.
2. Use the Activation Troubleshooter
• In the Activation settings, click Troubleshoot.
• Select “I changed hardware on this device recently”.
• Sign in with your Microsoft account that was linked to your Windows license.
• Choose your current device from the list and confirm.
3. Digital License vs. Product Key
• Digital License: If your Windows was linked to your Microsoft account, reactivation should work automatically.
• Product Key: If you installed Windows with a product key, you may need to re-enter it.
• Go to Settings → System → Activation → Change product key and enter the 25-character code.
4. If Reactivation Fails
• Make sure your Microsoft account is linked to your Windows license.
• If you don’t see your device in the troubleshooter, you may need to contact Microsoft Support.
• For OEM licenses (pre-installed Windows), activation may fail after a motherboard replacement, since the license is tied to the original hardware.
The same provider also stores downloadable ISO's of a variety of editions of Windows including LTSC releases which are also from Microsoft servers.
Microsoft use it themselves.

It's clearly an inside joke at MS or they would have shut it down by now, it's been there for years.
HWID Activation
Overview
How to use it? Please find the instructions here.
This activation method supports Windows 10/11 only.
This activation method does not store or modify any files in your system.
This activation method gives you permanent Windows activation for your system hardware.
All activations can be linked to a Microsoft account without any issues.
Once the system is activated, this activation cannot be removed because the license is stored on Microsoft's servers, not on the user's system. Microsoft checks the hardware ID (HWID), and if a license is found in their database, the system will automatically activate. This is how all digital licenses work.
Any significant changes to the hardware (such as a motherboard) may deactivate the system. It is possible to reactivate a system that was deactivated because of significant hardware changes, IF your activation, was linked to an online Microsoft account.
For activation to succeed, Internet connectivity must be enabled. If you are trying to activate without these conditions being met, then the system will auto-activate later when the conditions are met.
The following is required for Windows to reactivate itself after Windows reinstall:
Internet connectivity is required. (Only at the time of activation)
The system will auto-activate only if Retail (Consumer) media was used for installing Windows.
The system will NOT auto-activate if VL (Business) media was used for the installation. In this case, the user will have to insert the generic Retail/OEM key corresponding to the Windows edition currently running to activate if the user doesn't want to use the script again. (Those keys can be found below on this page)
this isn't KMS. And its not a 'crack' its at worst a exploit or unpatched vurnerablity.
its HWID its permament as as good as the geniune activation process. BECAUSE it is the geniune activation process(well mostly) to understand that read the docs here:
https://massgrave.dev/hwid.html
also the tech did nothing illegal. did he violate a work policy who knows. microsoft may have a internal memo because these scripts are easy fix when something is broken. and are 100% reliable. forever
is it Illegal? No(well maby but you aren't the courts so lets not pretend to be one)
the "license" is neither a product key nor HWID token is is the RIGHT To use the Product Granted by the purchese of said software product or hardware with said product installed
the state of the activation ticket has NOTHING todo with the legality
Sure you do, just get it from the OS.
You had it input in there before, correct?
Install SPECCY and look at your key under Operating System
And those keys often get flagged by Microsoft at some point. Then you end up in the situation the OP is in.
thx for reading!
