Getting Tricked in 2025 as Prices Rise up 25% before Holiday Sales
in some cases with DDR5 memory the price jump has been over 300%

having got a 32gig kit around aug 2025 for 110 dollars it is now somewhere around 250 - 300 dollars. When will the madness of over inflation stop if you haven't upgraded Ram now is a really bad time to do it. Most likely they will try and squeeze it to increase the cost of products across the broad.

Beware

The DDR5 price jump isn’t price trickery, it’s a supply issue due to AI companies hovering up huge quantities of it.
Yeah usually people say to buy their hardware during holiday but now the prices are really bad and getting worse.

Agree it is beyond pathetic. Just let the markets cool for a bit and see how things go, not much more you can do. Except be glad you upgraded your ram when you did :steamsad:
i think the fact that ddr 5 is several years old already and they had plenty of years to generate and produce more doesn't created this kinda product inflation, its just scummy profit gouging,

companies that produce memory might need to be investigated for price hikes

Why? because you don't know how supply & demand works; therefor they need to be investigated? The price increase is due to what Slav mentioned. There is a large amount of AI infrastructure expansion happening right now and those large companies are contracting large orders for their ongoing deployments.

Consumer demand hasn't changed but the overall demand significantly shifted the demand curve to the right. In reality for the consumer market the demand stayed relatively the same but the effective supply curve contracted because most of the supply has been contracted out to all of the large AI firms.

No, it's lunatic trillion-dollar "gotta build massive AI data centers before THEY do!" idiocy. AI used absurd amounts of RAM. Along with processors, enterprise-level HDD/SSD, power, water. . . the whole thing is assininely wasteful. But it's the Hot New Thing, making companies stock values shoot into the trillions and governments go insane. No stopping this runaway train for now.

Maybe... but everyone in any country (or at least most countries) can setup a memory factory. In fact, the biggest issues isn't exactly with the memory factory, but rather the wafers. And there just isn't enough production. Orders are getting backup up. There are multiple reasons, but it's just what it is. There is more competition to buy so prices go up. And with the things they are right now, only 2 things can happen to the "desktop" memory market. Prices either go up or they stop making it. They make more money selling server memories.
