8BitDo controllers are also well supported.
Logitech gamepads work quite well.
Many generic no-name gamepads should also just work.
If you do experience any issues with any of these controllers, it is probably caused by Steam Input, you can try disabling it.

I'm going to have to wait for it to come out to see whether I will want it. Simply looked too bulky, and dual trackpads? The sticks looked way too close for comfort too.

Otherwise DualSense is better in every way.
I experienced gamebreaking stick drift after very light and minimal usage. Also had a host of issues getting the thing to work on Windows, let alone Linux. Unless the build quality and firmware testing has gone up, my experience was a borderline non-functional controller that had irreparable stick drift after 3 months of light use.
