but a Dedicated PC VRhead set that just works out of the box.. able to connect to any PC/MAC/Linux with out needing 3rd party apps/drivers and just works.. (like the index) sign me up as long as the price and preformance (lenes) ect are equal to or better then the quest 3
It comes with a 6 ghz dongle you plug in to your PC that provides a dedicated, low latency streaming channel specifically for the headset itself, entirely separate from your network, plus the foveated streaming reduces the amount of data needed to be transferred without being noticeable in-game. The headset itself has dual radios. One to connect to the dedicated dongle, and the other to connect to your wi-fi. Zero competition between your home network traffic and the wireless connection to your headset. It's a whole different ballgame compared to the wireless streaming in the Quest, for example.
What if your router is miles away but your PC is connected via wired TP link.
IM assuming it still have a USB-c port for A) charging and b) wired connection.. Fk dongles and wireless.. when gaming nothing should be wireless... (esxpect the controllers for VR reason)..
One USB-C 2.0 port in the rear, for charging and data (data) so ya you can still direct connect... Nice
Hmm, looking at the hands-on previews all over Youtube, the headset is in two parts. There's the very front of it, which contains the screens, optics, and compute. Then there's the strap and battery. The battery sits on the back of your head, and that's where the USB C port is. It might work for a wired connection, but considering all the focus on the dedicated wireless solution and the fact that the port is on the module separate from the actual important part, there's a good chance it won't work that way.
I recommend you forget about what you think the performance of a wireless VR connection is like. This is completely different.
Well no.. That USB-C port better do Data/Video out... Better be able to physically connnect the headset into the PC.. Uncompressed 80/40/20 Gbps of data (with zero lag) is far better then any Wireless data can out put
Even When Im on my Quest 3 (stand Alone) I still have that USB-C 16 ft connect to the unit.. just to keep it powered.... any one that uses a VRhead Set regardless in stand alone or not knows they are still gonna have to be connected to a Wall-outlet/USB port.. No on fires up a headset for 30 mins session only.. useally were on them at 3+ hours at a time...so that USB-C port on that headset better support direct connect ..
Even when playing multiplayer?
Direct line of sight with the dongle and you are good.
You should watch Linus try to walk to the other end of the room while using it.
I have bi-lateral optic nerve hypoplasia and nystagmus.
I work in Immersed and I game in Virtual desktop using a Meta quest 3s and 1.5Gb fibre connection at home.
The issue I have with the original steam deck is it's a small screen.
With this device, I'm hoping I can do the same as with my quest where I can resize the screens and move them as close as I need.
I can curve them as much as I need with immersed as well.
Meta also enabled text to speech for their horizon OS UI.
I hope the steam frame will bring text to speech and the same kind of control for window management.
It will replace my steamdeck if that's the case.
I also hope the color camera module comes out soon for full color pass through.
I also hope valve listens to this and looks at introducing accessibility options to help people with low vision get the best out of their headset.
Allegedly.
In other words, you shouldn't trust what chosen people say and wait for real people to bite that bullet and see what their experience is with that thing.
