Need help getting steam to recognize my existing library on Linux Mint
recently switched from windows 10 to linux mint cinnamon. im currently dual booting windows 10 and linux, and need a way for steam to recognize my existing steam library.

i have tried multiple things online but nothing seems to work specifically for what i need to do. if anyone can help that would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Can Steam see that drive OK that you have the ganes on?

You tried making a new Steam Library with Steam Client? Then exit the Steam Client and put the games in the new Steam Library? Just make sure the folder structure is all correct. Then load Steam back up again and click a game you know is present click install and as long as it's within the same Library folder it should then see it and verify it.

Yeah i have been trying that but it ends up just reinstalling the game instead of recognizing that its already installed

Did you install linux mint to a new drive, or is it on the same drive as windows 10?

i believe its on a different drive, i have an HDD and an NVME. i run windows on my NVME and i think it installed linux on my HDD. i didnt really have a choice to where it installed for some reason or maybe i skipped a step by accident. im thinking about possibly doing a fresh install on linux, but i dont want to wipe a whole drive or get rid of my windows files.

If you copied the games to the new library then on first launch of each game Steam will think they need to be installed again, it then realises something is there and validates the install instead. Did you let that happen when you tried earlier?

when you install a new os, be sure that only the drive you want the os on is installed
then you know for sure that the os is on that drive and only that drive

windows and linux install bootloaders and wipe each others out
best to use bios boot options to pick the drive to boot from

shut down completely and unplug the windows drive, then install linux on the hdd or sata nvme drive

you dont need to launch the game, just verify game files
steam -> storage -> select library -> repair

yes i have tried this. i gave steam the correct path to my steam library and clicked download and it wont validate the files and instead installs them again. i checked where it installed the game and it reinstalls it into the folder that it already exists in ? its really weird. and even when the game is installed, they wont run. i have tried downloading multiple versions of proton on the drive but nothing works
