PCI EXPRESS X16 X4 4.0
hello i got 9070 XT and only few days ago i found out that you should always put gpu in the first slot not second becuz the first slot is x16 while the second slot is 4x wich makes it 4 times slower? i tried look up if it affects performance by alot or little if i play games on 1440P so i wanted to ask is it worth to buy new mobo so i could get x16 PCI? in my current mobo there is simply no space to put my gpu in the first slot i got asrock X570 pro4 the audio slots are blocking the way i wanted know how much does this affect performance? i got mixed answers from to big impact like 20% less fps or little impact like 5% fps loss my setup is

7 5800X3D
9070 XT
32GB 3200mhz ram
w11
mobo is asrock x570 pro4

Curious as to why it can't go in the regular slot?

Never mind missed audio slots blocked.

You man the little silver block with the headphones style jacks?

i took a picture to show what i mean

you can see pink/blue slots that thing is in the way also my question was if my performance get affected if i use 4x4 PCI slot instead of x16

That audio header should not block the use of that top PCIe slot for most GPUs. Which specific 9070xt do you have?

9070 XT sapphire pulse but my main question still stays unanswered :( i wanna know if the performance impact is big on 1440P if you use 4x4 PCI instead of x16

Those rear audio ports should not be blocking ,they are above the top pciex slot. Have you physically tried to install it .Take pic of gpu to see if something on card is blocking it.

Run benchmarks and compare the results?

You can use a riser cable depending on your case but they have their own caveats and might decrease the performance anyways or cause other issues. It's better to avoid riser cables.

It might be something else blocking the gpu. Metal tabs hitting the mainboard or getting stuck in slot holes, etc... Look with a flash light. Mainboard might just need a bit of moving around/centring.

It is a 5.0x16 interface, and the board you have is 4.0x16 pciex. If it were running at 4.0x4 their would be some performance drop. Like set-115689 said above you would have to benchmark to find out.

how do i even do benchmark if i cant even get 16x PCI

that was the only thing blocking it the GPU

I really don't see how that card would not fit. I see it is 3 slot and 3 fans long. Is it hitting something in the front of case like hard drive mounts?
Blaagh 10 月 16 日 下午 4:28
does not matter what model.. ANY gpu would fit in that slot.

you're doing something way wrong

why would they design the mobo outside the atx spec where the pci-e slot cant be used?

this is the top view

the gpu will go below the audio jacks and on top of the m.2 nvme drive and heatsink

the gpu supports pci-e 5.0 x16, but in that board it will only run at pci-e 4.0 x16, which will make zero difference in its performance

in the lower slot at pci-e 4.0x4, both of the x16 length slots are run from the cpu lanes, older cpus will be x8+x4

running it in the x4 slot will only make it slower when loading new data, models/textures, it would run fine otherwise, giving the same high fps marks, just slightly lower lows 1%/.1%

Yes, it's going to be big since you're going to halve your bandwidth, what I do think here is that either your mobo is misaligned or your card isnt properly seated and screwed

how big? and do you have proofs? not trying to be rude i just heard both sides saying its gonna be huge impact and other side saying not really and my gpu is correctly seated my brother put together PC he knows his stuff and i dont understand how can mobo be missaligned that audio slots are still gonna be in the way of gpu no matter what you do
