If a game can run under Linux with Windows emulation, then it should run on this thing.

i would see no reason why the steam box would not be able to run a sand box VM with a older version of windows in it....2 cores at 3ghz with 2gb of memory is all that needs to be allocated for anything Vista on back.....

now the question comes back to the version of linux and what was chopped out of it to know if it will run

Steam machine is a PC with Steam's own OS, a machine configured for gaming. However if you are not enjoying the steam OS you can simply format the drive & install an OS of your choice.

So a Steam machine will do anything a PC can.

Wolfenstein 2009 isn't abandonware. I still have 5 game gifts for this game. I sold 2 others for around 90 TF2 crate keys years ago.

And the game runs fine on my Deck.

For anything else (if the options are there) install with wine, add non-steam game and enable proton.

From what I've seen, I think it's worth it for people that can't spend that much money to buy an expensive PC but still want to play pc games.

for games outside of steam you can go into desktop mode then download lutris and heroic games launcher also while you are at it protonup-qt then you can also add the latest proton-ge to steam which is a modified proton version that contains more fixes and codecs
