Suggestion: USB Jack adapter for the steam machine
It seems that the steam machine doesn't have a Jack port and a cost efficient solution would be to just put an USB adapter into the box. It\s like 5 bucks

USB and jack are further away from each other than a plant and a video game character. One being digital data, the other analogue audio, among a few trillion other things. A "USB jack" fundamentally doesn't exist, and never will.

Been using USB audio DACs for the last twenty years on macOS, Linux and Windows - plenty available from a few bucks at Amazon and many other online store fronts.

agree most USB sound cards are no problem on linux, even recognized my G430 sound card as generic (no surround functions unfortunately) just worked plug-and-pray

why do people believe this??? 20 bucks gets a real sound blaster USB DAC.....

this would be the base line to get....not because its a sound blaster but because of the specs.....
