If you need a PC instead of a console, build a PC.
It literally says 'It's a PC' on the page, there is no 'console' written anywhere, so I don't know where did you pull this from. If I need to built a normal PC to connect active speakers and a mixer to a source, what would I even need Steam Machine for? TV speakers are a sad joke and you can't even listen to music without it being turned on.
Being pedantic might not be the big brain move you think it is.
Something can be a PC and run audio through HDMI. What makes a PC a PC? Is an audio jack a load bearing feature in the definition of a PC?
I mean PC's used to have serial ports and floppy disks and optical drives. Removing unneeded hardware doesn't make it not a PC. Even in if you have opinions about how a specific bit might be important to you personally.
Or could get HDMI with audio extractor adapter.
Another monitor support audio out for jack, can do it that way.
Otherwise you be using tv, or monitor with built in speakers.
have just checked the one i m using now .it has
Even though we all know it just a custom built Mini PC it's primary use is Gaming so it's a hybrid console, basically designed to connect to a TV but you could use it with a monitor albeit you need a monitor with speaker out (head phones) or built in speakers that normally sound crap.
There is another way.
Plug it in to a HDMI home cinema amp, that way you have really good audio as well.
If you haven't got a HDMI home cinema amp you can pick them up fairly cheap second hand but be aware the old ones will only support 1080p and might add a higher latency (input lag).
if you buy a HDMI home cinema amp for gaming do your research first and make sure it supports the resolution and Hz(normally 60Hz but some support higher like 120Hz) you want along with a low latency.
I have an old HDMI Home Cinema Amp but if I plug my PC into it I lose AMD fresync 48hz-120hz (built into my TV is AMD fresync 48hz-120hz) only 1080p upto 60hz supported, No HDR support and massive input lag lol so I connect to it via my sound card.
