hdmi audio+video output, and most likely bt for mic and controller input
If they're selling a PC I think it should include the bare minimum standards that PCs come with.
Do I think its a bit silly to not include? Yeh.
But do I get why they ditched it? Also yes. Well over half of more people I know now days either use a USB wired headset, or use a USB dac. Or they use wireless via BT. I am one of the very few I know with a hardware sound card and 3.5mm analog interface headphones.
And the few of us who *do* use 3.5mm or 1/4in outputs typically want something above integrated audio, either an internal sound card, or far more common an external USB connected DAC.
Not at all a downput on those less advantaged, as I have been there myself, but it seems the only people who use basic integrated "every PC has it" type of audio are people with objectively lower end headphones/speakers running on motherboard integrated audio, who either cannot afford better or who choose not to invest in better.
Both of those options are fine and I am not bashing either, but compared to the number of PC gamers who use *anything else" its probably a bit low. How low? Who knows.
But for the main target audience, I dont think the lack of Jack will matter. Apple took care of that.
same....been on a USB sound blaster card for over 15 years now just because it has real dolby digital support with real 5.1 out to a onkyo 7.1 amp......but it sucks when half the advertising shows it being used as a desktop replacement
And the reality is integrated audio solutions are arse anyway. There are all kinds of interference with these, because there is simply no good way to shield them properly from all the EM coming from all the components, especially in such a tight formfactor.
There are plenty decent sub-50 € USB audio cards out there, and the cheapest ones (though probably rubbish) can be had for under 10 € even. There are also HDMI audio extractors in similar price ranges if you don't want to block a USB slot just for audio and are fine with very basic audio output. Alternatively, there are Bluetooth headphones as well.
