r7 7700 vs 7700x
7700x is about 80 dollars more expensive, is it worth it? (for 5070)

80$ difference? not even remotely worth it.

all the X versions of cpus are is a slightly overclocked and slightly better binned version.

get the 7700 and save 80$ or get the 7800.

the only way i'd ever get any X version of a cpu is if it was 10$ more at most.

there is only 7800x3d in nearby stores and it's even more expensive, so i'll pass, thanks

This is good advice in this particular case (with the Ryzen 7 7700/X), but I want to add that it is not like this in all cases. In a few cases, there's major difference between the X and non-X CPU besides "one is clocked a bit higher". Sometimes, the non-X CPU is just a G CPU without the integrated graphics. And the G models are typically monolithic models that have half the cache. they're inverted X3Ds in other words, and just like X3Ds have increased performance in games due to their cache, these lesser cache models can lack a lot of gaming performance.

The 5700 and 5700X is one example where this applies. The 5700 was a late release and was considered badly named for this reason though. This also applies to the 5500, but that never had an X version. I don't know if AMD ever did this in the 7000 or 9000 series (yet) though. If not, they may in the future.

If you ever want to know if if the X and non-X are the "same", you can probably look up the L3 cache total between them. If they match, the non-X is fine to choose. If it's less on the non-X, then I'd avoid it if you care about gaming performance.
Just get a 7600X or 7800X3D instead
