It was a headache before but it reached a crazy level.
So am I forced to use a workaround and have no official means to install W11 on a common hardware? Really?
I can do it but I can’t believe it’s real.
That does sound crazy. I would really think that Windows 11 installer would recognize the internet I guess on that. But it is a lan card and not the actual ethernet port on the motherboard?
windows 11 is a PITA to install with missing essential drivers (intel RST being the worst offender)
That's wild. Up until now I'm assuming even after Windows installs, you've always needed to manually install drivers to get lan working?
I think Microsoft will need to update their installer to make sure there is no missing drivers for online access. What would also mean no need to ever install them manually again.
It was a big annoyance before but with mandatory microsoft login the drivers also should be mandatory.
Also, yes you can install Windows 11 with a local account without internet access without modifying a bootable installer; though that is one way to do it.
Look up Chris Titus Tech on youtube; he has several videos on installing Windows 11 and minimizing the amount of bloat it has without breaking things. He has a useful tool to help you debloat it after you've installed it as well.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LK75SWX4F2s
Edit: you can also login to your microsoft account after you've installed with a local account and it will setup your microsoft account as well.
Then continue to do an offline installation from the Official Windows 11 25h2 ISO.
Short and simple, not going into all the details. Then you go online and do the rest.
PS: Advanced users like myself know this as it's common sense before any fresh installation.
who has still the ability to install their OS, their games, and play them as well as watch their movies?
-
exactly those who have older os.. and either .exe/.iso from GoG or fysical disks to isntall with.
the internet should NOT be a dependency but only a conveniance.. everything should still be able to be done without it..
-> it is one thing to need to download the .exe or .iso (that than forever can be installed and run offline) but to actually need a connection to internet (and by extention an online server) is unacceptable in all situations..
the profit margins of corporations should not be used as argument to create such an unneccecairy dependency..
-> plus any server will eventually be turned off so any software than can only be installed or run with acces to that server.. will eventually be bricked.. which is the kind of planned obelecance where laws against should excist. (as any piece of software is like a book or movie.. and is cultural herritage that should be able to be preserved and enjoyed forever.
-> virtual bookburnings "cause it is more profit if we make you buy the newest book by burning you old books" is never acceptable.
I just did it on a laptop this week
The problem now is mandatory internet access during windows installation to login to Microsoft account. How can I install windows when it requires online access but doesn’t provide drivers during installation for online access?
However, it’s apparently still possible to finish W11 installation offline on PRO version. Not on Home edition but it doesn’t affect me.
But I’m sure a lot of people will be stuck if they have Home edition or don’t know how to bypass “mandatory” Microsoft account.
