Fan help
hi currently building my first pc, i have the nzxt h7 flow 2024 case and it has fan fittings :

front 3x120mm or 3x140mm
back 1x120mm or 140mm
top 3x120mm or 2x140mm
bottom 3x120mm
i have so far bought but not installed 3x Thermalright TL-C12C-S 120mm for the bottom intake, 3x Thermalright TL-C14C 140mm for the front intake, my question is do i get another 140mm x3 Thermalright TL-C14C to split between the back exhaust and the top exhaust or do i get 2 of the Be quiet Pure Wings 3 140mm PWM Fans to do the same. the Thermalright TL-C14C x3 are £11.67 and the be quiet pure wings will be £20, another quick question do a put the different fan section eg front, back+top, bottom on separate fan connectors on the motherboard or should i(cable length permitting)plug them all into a powered fan hub.hope someone can help.

From what you already bought I would put 3x120mm to bottom as intake, 1x140mm to back and 2x140mm to top as exhaust.
Then would get 420mm radiator CPU cooler for front as intake.
ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III 420 A-RGB or ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 420 A-RGB would work great, they are not expensive and will come in several color and fan variations:

Exhaust should be 220mm if your case can handle that, but intake should be 140/120mm, because air pressure.
220mm can have more air flowing, ideal for getting hot air out.
140/120mm is ideal for intake since it can take air faster with more pressure. Ideally you want positive air pressure inside a case..
BUT. 140/120mm is completely ok. No need to switch since difference is tiny like a grain of sand.

I don't think that case will support a 420 radiator.

EDIT: nvm double checked it and it does show it supports a 420 in the front mount.

@OP
As I suggested previously in one of your other threads, I'd get the Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360 Pro and either install it in the from 3x 120mm mount as an intake, or in the top 3x 120mm mount as an exhaust.

Given you've already got 3x 140mm fans for the front intake I'd lean toward the latter and put an 360 AIO radiator in the top as exhaust and then get a 140mm fan for the 1x rear fan as exhaust as well.

You'd still have plenty of positive pressure to minimize dust ingress with 3x 140mm and 3x 120mm intakes with 1x 140mm and 3x 120mm exhausts.

thanks for your replies, i would rather stick to just air cooler if possible.

Didn't you say you ended up going with the 9800X3D? While you can definitely use a good tower cooler; AMD specifically recommends using a liquid cooler.

If you're going to use a tower cooler then just do the 3x 120mm in the bottom, 3x 140mm in the front as intakes and 3x 120mm in the top and 1x 140mm in the rear as exhaust.

I'd personally just stick to all the same fan models but it isn't going to make a massive difference in regards to cooling performance.

In regards to controlling the fan; you can usually just use the PWM fan headers on your motherboard and use the motherboards settings to control the fans. If you don't have enough fan headers on your motherboard you can normally use a PWM "Y" splitter to connect 2x fans to one header. Most fan headers on the motherboard will support enough amperage to power at least 2 fans from them. Doing this the two PWM fans will operate at the same RPM/dutycycle.

Otherwise, you can get a fan controller like NZXTs CAM RGB & FAN controller or Corsair's iCUE Commander.

Another option if you just want all of the case fans to operate at the same RPM/dutycycle you can get a basic PWM hub like Noctua's NA-FH1 8 Channel PWM Fan Hub. The hub connects to SATA power to provide power for the 8 fans and then you connect 1x PWM fan cable from the hub to one of your motherboard PWM headers and you can control them from that fan header.

Currently getting the 9700x(£242) but wont be sent out till probably Wednesday so plenty of time to change my mind other options are the 9800x3d(£400) and the 7800x3d(£320),i think there is 6 fan headers on my expected motherboard so will probaly stick with using them unless the distance between the fans and the headers are too much, not sure if its better to stick with the same fans for the top and the back so that all fans have the same top speed so can set the curve the same and they will run at the same rather than eg. fan top speed is 1500rpm and others are 1700rm but if they are all running at 70% then they would be running at different speeds i think.

That is correct in regards to how their dutycycle works. PWM is essentially just turning on and off the light switch really fast; at a rate which keeps the fan at some portion of it's full speed.

It won't really matter other than you might hear it more. Also you can get 4pin PWM fan header extension cables if you need more cable length to reach. If you have 8 PWM fan headers on your motherboard and you're installing 10 fans then I'd probably just pickup a couple of the Y cables for a couple of the fans.

Me personally would have gotten cheap but good case with decent pre-installed fans and went for 9800X3D instead of fancy case and lot of bling. :hee:

maybe you are right about the case, wish i had bought a case with enough pre-installed quality fans but it was on sale so just went for it.
