cpu cores
I am in the process of sorting out which parts i need for my first pc build, but i have a question i hadnt thought of so far, my current pc is a I5 8600K and i run multiple things at once but after a while the cpu utilistion gets to 100% and programs crash and i am thinking of getting either 9800x3d or 9700x but wondered if this would still happen, not sure if i need more cores than my current pc (6 cores) or if i need to look at certain specs on the cpu's. hope someone can help thanks.

8600K is fairly old by today`s standards so not really surprising hitting 100% use in modern games. 9800X3D is good option for gaming, pretty much best you can get currently.

You won't have the same issue on any modern cpu, even the 6 cores.

Everything that has more than 4 threads should work absolutely fine because it is harder deadlock to happen.

What programs are crashing?

when i have multiple different browsers open and doing other stuff like moving files after a while things start crashing i think its probably because of the ram running out.

It should just slow as it caches things back and fourth, if it's crashing you have a system instability somewhere.

it only only really happens after a a while(a number of hours) and then i have to restart to speed it back up fresh.

How long has Windows been installed, Windows can get janky after a bit, I tend to do a fresh install every so often, sometimes after a big Windows upgrade too as their upgrade system is still a bit meh after all this time and sometimes gives random issues.

This sounds about right. Your problems might be software in the end and if that's the case it might follow you to your new build.

I'd say test this buy doing a fresh install now. It's not like you have to wait until you build a whole new pc, plus it might answer your question. If it stops crashing after the fresh install then cores isn't the problem.
8/6 cores more than enough
