PC powers off randomly after 5 to 10 minutes of use
This just started and its happened twice now, both times in a game. It doesn't seem like a crash, its like someone actually just hit the power button, like its a process being performed.
I have absolutely no idea where to start, the thing has had no problems for months since building it. Its about 3 months old now as a build, with a fresh new install of windows 11. I just wish I knew where to even begin looking.

Start with PSU, sounds like it's dying as a first thought, or maybe the PSU isn't good enough, post some specs and exact PSU model.

Remove any overclocks.

See what event viewer says? Press windows key and type reliability and click on view reliability history. Kernel power 41 is a generic error and probably what you'll see.

off is often poor or overrated psu

psu brand/model/age?

unstable oc should crash/bsod (and reboot by default) or maybe throttle if the cpu or boards vrms are getting too hot
similar with incorrect drivers

always best to get it stable enough with generic drivers, then run sfc /scannow
then download and install the drivers from the mobo mfg site or oem site
and update bios

specs would be helpful
post a cpuz validation link
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
cpuz -> validate button -> submit button
it will open a browser, copy the url (address) and paste it here

Fairly sure its a Corsair RM1000x. Could be more than 1000w but its at least 1000.

Ryzen 7 9800X3D
RX 9070 XT nitro
Corsair (lots of numbers and letters) 6400hz DDR5 16x2

There are no issues with overheating, in most games CPU is aroune 50 and gpu 90.

Powers off and restarts or power off only?
Adding to above, agree the PSU. however window 11 could be updating in background, please check if windows updates settings to never auto restart.

I don't know how to check that setting, can't find it in update settings.
Its not the PSU, impossible, there's nothing wrong with it, see specs above.

Checked the reliability thing. I can see the last three (third just happened) shutdowns, but there's no useful information. Just says "The previous system shutdown at 07:50:25 on ‎23/‎09/‎2025 was unexpected"

Could be bad luck and you got a faulty unit, not impossible at all, over the years I've had PSU's, HD's, CPU's the lot dead or faulty on arrival.
Hang on, in the reliability, thing, in the second list of events called "informational events" there's three events that match up time wise to the shutdowns called "Microsoft GameInput". Description is "Windows Installer reconfigured the product. Product Name: Microsoft GameInput. Product Version: 10.1.26100.6114. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation. Reconfiguration success or error status: 0."
There's three at the exact same moment as the shutdowns. Could this be it?

Do you have 2 separate 8 pin cables to the gpu or a daisy chained one? Should be fine either way but never know? ~304 w gpu power draw maybe

I seriously can't remember but yes I think I do have that? The gpu needs over 300w so I seem to remember that's how my friend helped set it up with a spliter cable. But, I really don't think its that. See my post above, could it be that GameInput event? It matches up with the crashes exactly.

Any controllers attached maybe? Windows is set to restart on errors by default. Remove extra stuff and just try mouse/keyboard? No idea.

I'm about to try that but... if it is that what do I do? I need to use a controller for 90% of games I play.

That was my next call, check all the power cables are plugged in the motherboard.

And also when it shuts down is it instant or do you see the shutdown process?

And when it shuts down do you have to wait a bit before you can turn back on and does the PSU make a clicking noise as that's the circuit protection kicking in.

Power cable must be in as it hasn't been touched since finishing building.

It shuts down instantly, display goes first and then I hear the shutdown click.
It can be turned on again right away.
