Should I pull trigger on OLED?
Hello, since I got a job I'm slowly upgrading everything in my PC. Last thing remaining to upgrade is monitor. Right now I have a budget 1080p 165hz that originally started with 5600x + 3060ti. Now i got 5800x3D + 4070 and was thinking of upgrading to a 27' 1440p because my chair is kinda near the display (around 60cm, so maybe 32' 2160p would be too big) and I also have height issues (there is a sort of shelf above my desk at 47cm). So probably 27' 1440p should be the perfect solution between size and image quality.

At this point I was looking at ROG OLED PG27AQDM since I saw it with a really good price today, that is really tempting me. But I'm wondering if it would last.

I fear both burn in and dead pixels. Should i wait a couple years for OLED technology to develop enough? Will another technology come soon enough like MiniLED or anything competing with OLED? Or should I stop waiting and just pull the trigger?

Thanks and have a nice day

Yes, prices on OLED are dropping fast and the issue of burn-in is mostly solved. You are unlikely to experience burn-in even after years of heavy usage.

Well, it's easy. Buy one with burn-in guarantee and zero dead pixel policy. Alienware for one.

I have had one of their oleds for over a year now and no sign of any burn-in, or dead pixels. It doesn't matter though, because it has a three year guarantee.

I have an oled monitor sat next to a very expensive ips monitor, both are 144Hz, yet the oled is noticeably smoother. The picture quality, well, the main two differences are contrast and reds. The reds are true reds. Although the ips is quite good, nothing compares to the oled.

there are only a few panel mfgs

dead pixel is pretty much not going to be a problem

burn in will be
the panel will get about a year of use (on time) before you see screen burn

to help prevent and make it last longer before you can see screen burn
1. turn it off when not in use
2. avoid static images, desktop icons, taskbar, clock etc..

the display displays burn prevention can help, but mostly only burns a ghost around the pixels that would burn, or burns reverse image so the entire screen is burned evenly
some overdrive burned sub pixels, which would burn them faster but look even until they reach their max brightness

if you wan to buy a new display in a few years go ahead

lcd panels will last 10+ years without burn, even if left on 24/7

Its difficult for me to see burn in on my oled that I have had for about 2 years

I only notice it if I am looking at stuff like youtube comments

Any constantly moving games or other things haven't done any burn in, even with UIs that are static

But, at the end of my current monitors life, I'll be going to a Samsung (I think it's a samsung), a 39" ultrawide 21:9 @ 1440p 240Hz, when the price of it goes down from $1499 to maybe $800.

I love my oled monitor. It's so much easier on my eyes, and the colors are richer

Just remember to do a pixel refresh after about 4 hours of continuous use

And after, I think the first 1,000 hours, it will need to refresh for an hour.

Oled doesn't have much of a problem with burn in now. Many cell phone screens are oled, and the one I have is four years old and there is no burn in.

It's probably the future of monitors and tv's. Especially the quantum dot oled's

The only problem is that they run extremely hot compared to other types of monitors

I am running a completely black desktop to extend the life of my monitor, and I usually don't run HDR and set the brightness at 0% if I am just watching videos on it

Bro my TV is from 2005 I don't run a screen saver and it's a plasma, you really don't need to worry about burn ins, with older tvs, all the new technology is junk, if you buy a new TV and smell any soder flux burning take the new TV back it's defective

wouldn't be much of a point in a monitor you can't use daily

again, wouldn't be much of a point in a monitor that can't do that

you can also do that on any other monitor, oled isn't special for it
