Xbox One Controller
Anyone else have the mouse pointer moving on its own when using an Xbox controller on a pc? I'm trying to set up the Xbox controller to use with American Truck Simulator but as soon as I move the left stick to set up steering the pointer starts moving all over the screen and won't stop until I unplug the controller. I'm using a Lenovo laptop, Win 10, i7, 32g ram, with nvidea quadro m2200 gpu. I've reached out to support from the game manufacturer but have only gotten a couple suggestions for things that didn't help. I've reset the controller in the game, started it in safe mode, deleted the controls file from the ATS folder, deleted the entire ATS folder, reinstalled the game, reinstalled Steam, updated Windows 10, rolled back Win 10, updated my GPU driver, deactivated the touchpad, deactivated the Lenovo Trackpoint, and checked the xbox controller itself - and nothing has fixed the issue. What am I missing that's causing the mouse pointer to start floating all over the screen by itself whenever I try using the Xbox controller? I'd appreciate any suggestions you could make. Thanks.

just disable steam input. either by removing the checkbox in steams controller config or go to games properties und set it to disabled there

disable the input mappings
steam -> settings -> controller -> [desktop]
or map them as desired

steam -> settings -> controller -> [general] -> select -> calibrate
bring up the deadzones if the joys are moving it when near center

Thanks for the suggestions but I don't want to just map the controller to the keyboard. I want to be able to use the triggers for throttle and brakes, so they have different levels of actuation (like a volume button) not just on or off like a keyboard button would give me. I want the controller to be set up like a controller, not like a keyboard I know it should work that way, it just doesn't on my laptop.

Again, just disable SteamInput.
You don't really need it for XBox gamepads anyway.

A recent Steam update changed the default deadzone setting to "none". This can cause joystick drift.

If the deadzones on the configuration you are using have been set to "none", changing the deadzone setting to "calibration" or "configuration" can fix it.

Cathulhu, I have done that but it didn't help. I unchecked the Xbox option in the controller settings within Steam. Is there something else I need to do?

And I have changed the dead zone settings in the controller and that didn't help. It's not just joystick drift. It's the pointer moving erratically all over the screen. And it will start by using any stick, trigger, or button on the controller and won't stop until I unplug the controller.

Does this only occur in ATS or in other games as well?

Do you have any other controllers you can test out?

I downloaded an app to test the controller and it was working fine. Also I used it on a different computer with ATS and it worked fine. I don't know if it would happen in other games, ATS is the only one I have.

no
steam -> library -> select game -> properties -> controller tab
disable steam input mapping

disable the input mappings
steam -> settings -> controller -> [desktop]

thats only used for desktop, when steam launches a game it uses the games profile or mapping config

So I disabled all Steam input and downloaded JoytoKey and mapped the contoller to the keyboard. In the game I left it set on keyboard for the control setting. It worked, until I paused or went into settings where the mouse pointer becomes visible and again, the pointer was moving all over the screen making the mouse unusable until you unplug the controller. ATS support apparently doesn't know what to do to fix it either. Thanks to all for the suggestions.
